Kyx's Geese Experiment

Week 3, Day 1 (Day 9)

I have been feeding the geese for the past two weeks, this is the third week. Sometimes i walk past and don't do anything, sometimes i sit down and feed them. I have made three observations:

Observation 1:
When i walk past, they ignore me. When i sit down, they walk towards me.

Observation 2:
Foods Geese like:

•

Bread (with or without butter)

•

Crisps (any flavour)

•

Chicken

•

Tomatoes

•

Ham (some)

Foods Geese don't like

•

Ham (most)

•

Lettuce

•

Cucumber

•

Onion

Foods Ducks like:

•

Bread (with or without butter)

•

Crisps (any flavour)

•

Lettuce

Foods Ducks don't like:

•

Cucumber

Foods Seagulls like:

•

Bread (with or without butter)

•

Cucumbers

Foods Seagulls don't like:

•

Lettuce

Observation 3:
Before i started feeding them today, some of them started salivating...

I think this merits further investigation. Especially observation 2.

Week 3, Day 2 (Day 10)

Today i literally had the geese feeding out of my hand. And i updated observation 2. One goose actually liked ham!

Week 3, Day 3 (Day 11)
It seems two geese have gained enough trust to take food from my hand. One goose actually touched my hand with its beak. When i dropped a crumb on my knee, it leaned over and ate it, its beak touching my knee. The other geese won't take the food from my hands though. They just hiss.

There's one goose that gets picked on by the other geese, and is much slimmer. It squeaks instead of honking. I give it extra. :smile:

I hung the bread from two fingers, and they went for the lowest point and pulled. I was surprised too.
