4K TV Advice

Hello all.......
I need some advice please

Basically our house is being renovated and our living room TV suddenly broke....so we want to invest in a new living room TV.

Size between 49 and 55 inches.

The TV will have a Sky Box hooked up to it as well as the PS4.

What I want to know is... is it worth getting a 4K TV? I have read that 4K TV's are not worth the price and it will be better to invest in a top quality LED 1080 TV, whilst others have said 4K TV's are worth getting especially for the future....

My budget is around £500 and preferably from ARGOS as I can get discount.
I don't own a 4K TV yet as my Sony Bravia KDL42W653A is still going strong. I have done a fair bit of research into TVs & in terms of picture quality you really do get what you pay for.

Samsung & Sony are well renowned for very good picture quality but the Samsung TVs usually have better smart features.
For £500 you probably won't be able to get a premium branded TV around 50 inches unless there's a sale on. For that much, the best you're going to get is something like this:

If you can save up somewhat further you could get this which will provide a better picture as it's HDR.

Also the motion rate for that TV is only 50...that isn't great for gaming right?

I suppose it depends how long you plan on keeping the TV for. If it's a long term investment then 4K is definitely recommended. If you're planning to buy a new one in 2/3yrs then a decent 1080p will do.
It also depends on what 4K content you plan to view - games consoles like the PS4 can't output 4K & I'm guessing Sky's 4K content is at a premium.
That said, if I was buying a new TV now I'd go for 4K although I'd probably pass on 3D.

Here's reviews of the TVs I posted above:

Ideally 60hz would be better but you also have to worry about input lag. Quite a few PS4 games still aren't 60 FPS yet however.

If you want a rather hardcore TV review site (some of the tests go over my head) then this site is great. However, it usually tests fairly expensive TVs.

Yes its going to be for many years....we won't buy another one anytime soon....thats why if it costs £750 my parents may be prepared to increase the offer since this will be our main tv.

Any recommendations?
For £500 4K TV you'll have to compromise somewhere whether it's on certain aspects of picture quality, sound quality, connectivity etc. If you can live with that then that's fine.
When you hit the £600-£700 barrier then you shouldn't have too worry so much out comprises. I'm confident I could find a Samsung one in that price range with good reviews which should be reasonably future proof. If I was going for a 4K TV at this time, that's the price range I'd look it. I certainly couldn't ever bring myself to spend a grand on a TV like some people do.
