How do I survive freshers as an introvert?

I'm probably going to Plymouth in September and freshers there involves parties and drinking every night it seems. I enjoy that kind of thing but is it acceptable to miss a few nights as, being an introvert, socialising is kinda exhausting and so I need time to myself afterwards to recharge whereas other people are happy to spend all their time around others. Does anyone understand?

Everything I've read just says to force yourself to go out to every party or you'll make a bad impression from the start so I'm a bit worried. It's just freshers seems kinda intense and I'd really like a balance between socialising and time to myself to settle in.
Alcohol and cannabis. :colonhash:
go to all events at freshers with your flatmates and meet new people. After freshers you'd only be going out like 1-2 a week

No one's telling you you have to go out every night. In fact most probably won't. Takes it's toll on the wallet/liver in the end

Hello

All I can say is, whatever you are reading is wrong. I mean, yes, push yourself a little to try and get out and explore a little but don't force yourself. Push the boundaries of your comfort zone but don't 'force' yourself if you aren't comfortable.
Freshers is intense, depending on how you spend.

The stereotype of Freshers does proceed it. Yes, every night is drinking and clubbing and parties - if you choose to spend it that way. During Freshers week, there is usually other activities and events planned by the SU or University throughout the day times - this can be freshers fair, society meetings and so on and so fourth. There is plenty to do that doesn't involve drinking - you don't have to drink to enjoy Freshers, just most people do.

You won't make a bad impression - if you aren't comfortable, you'll meet people like yourself and people will respect that. There are good and bad accounts depending on the university and person - it's more of a learning curve and self discovery. I completely understand what you mean - attend as many or as little events as you want - do what makes you feel comfortable!

There is plenty to do and explore, just enjoy yourself.

I honestly had no idea that all this happened in freshers week - especially in a foreign country. I really dislike partying.

Thank you that's reassuring, there's societies I know I want to join so I can always make more friends through them. I'm gonna go to some evening events but yeah I wasn't sure if it was the norm to go to them all bc that's just not me, luckily I've always been good at fighting peer pressure. Hopefully I'll be living with some other introverts I can stay in with on occasion

Oh yes! There is a fair amount that happens in Freshers week - don't be fooled by the stereotypes. Yes, a bit part of it is partying, but it's not what it's all about - it's just because the other stuff isn't see as 'exciting' and 'thrilling'.

No problem. Exactly, societies are great places to meet people. No, it varies. Some people got to all, some got to a few and some go to none. Just depends on who you are and what you feel like doing.

Same thing for me. It does come with a price however.
"Count me out tonight girls, I'm really tired". All it needs.

True, also my cousin is graduating from the same uni that week so my relatives are gonna be in the area mid week and they said they'd take me out for a meal so I have an excuse to miss a party that night

I am starting uni in Plymouth in September too and I am thinking the exact same thing! I like the odd night out however I can't manage going out drinking every night of the week as its really draining. What course are you doing & are you staying in halls?
