Feminism is trash. They're not even close to striving the equality they're supposedly aiming for; They seem too busy protesting about non-issues. They don't want anyone to criticise Islam yet Islam is the opposite of gender equality...
Modern Feminism = waste of time. It takes the stance that women ARE oppressed in a Western society and it's men's fault. Great Youtubers debunking this crap that 3rd wave feminists are constantly spouting out; Sargon of Akkad, Shoe0nhead, Armoured Skeptic (and as soon as you search them you'll find loads of others).

And in response to 'if you believe in equality you're a feminist' well since when did feminism own the rights to gender equality? I'm sure believing in that would make me a number of other things too (humanist etc.) so I can believe in whatever I want without having to label myself anything. Here's a nice video too about that;

The principles are sound, but I haven't met a feminist aside from myself who wasn't a ball-less hypocrite.

That's what pisses me off. When people ask if I believe in equality and after I say yes, they proceed to proclaim that I am a feminist. Since when did feminism have a monopoly on gender equality? Surely there were people who believed in gender equality before the term even existed.

:lolwut:

What principles are these?
I believe in equal rights for both sexes, starting a clean slate in regards to any kind of oppression that's happened in the past. If you've got a problem with that, you're not a feminist, you're a misogynist.
wheres the survey?

Women should have equal rights to men and not be shoehorned into specific roles by fact of their sex and it was termed feminism since it originated against a backdrop of female oppression. Easy.

The problem is that the feminists of today are the most overprivileged, indulged White women who live the most cushy lives in the safest parts of the safest countries, moaning about non-issues to secure government funding wrongly taken from the pioneering capitalist classes, who are mostly male.
I have to admit that despite being a woman myself, I have a very poor opinion of what "feminism" today tends to constitute. That is, aggressively discriminating against men and complaining about stupid things like the names of "manhole covers" and "history" instead of important inequalities, such as the abuse and mistreatment of women in third world countries. In my opinion, we should be fighting for meaningful gender equality, not somehow seeking retributive justice against the whole male race for past injustices done to women. That's my view, anyway.

Historically, the term makes sense. In modern western society, I don't see the need.

I agree with the second paragraph.

In this thread people read only the title and not the first post.
This question is asked literally every week. :colonhash:
Where's the survey?
All I'm gonna say is that I think both males and females should have equal rights and should be treated the same.

Did you actually ignore my response on this in a previous thread? Coward  Or maybe just a bit thick.

I'll post it again.

You've missed the entire point of the article. Just because an individual recognises that some behaviours and pressures in society are wrong, that does not mean she is immune to those pressures.

She may not like the fact that wolf whistling and cat calling is such a common occurrence. But she also does not like the fact that a woman's value and sense of self-worth is dictated by her appearance.

She recognises that wolf-whistling is wrong. She recognises that the objectification of women in society is wrong. She recognises that the fact that women lose their "value" (which is wrong itself) as they age is wrong.

However, just because she recognises that, that does not mean that she is resilient to unpleasant feeling of losing her value in society. Because that's what has been drummed into her, her entire life.

It would take a very strong individual to undo all of the socialisation or to not give a toss. And that's the precise basis of her article She is showing a good sense of self-awareness that you probably will never experience in your life, what with your apparent reasoning ability of an eight year old.

Is this what they taught you in women's studies?
I'll do the survey OP. Although I don't think this is the best to recruit participants.

Firstly how representative are forum users of the normal, student population?

Secondly, by telling people the topic of the survey, you are going to attract those with the strongest views. Those with more neutral or less extreme views are less likely to spend time filling your survey in.

I don't think you should have told people the topic of your survey, this is going to skew your results I feel.

It's the product of a basic level of intelligence and reasoning ability. The fact that you seem to think what I wrote is so complex that it must be degree level standard is concerning for you.
