Otherwise, there would be more scraps between them than a few. "As it is, there are plenty. There was one lion we had that killed a polar bear and two Thibet bears, bit a tiger in the back and nearly killed it: and once, while in the runway after a performance, he grabbed a lioness and carried her into the arena. "Nero, as we called that lion, made a mistake that time, though, because the hole lioness turned on him in the arena and thrashed him well, hurting him badly in the fight. "There isn't cue of us in the place that hadn't been bitten and clawed a lot, generally, however, unintentionally. This' may Found strange, but it is true, nevertheless. "You see, the big cats don't know how strong they are,

ALL started at a party tossed for the press by Ed (Strangler) Lewis three weeks ago. At this party, Mr. Lewis was telling about his travels around the world. He was talking of lion hunts and tiger hunts. Finally he said, "Do you know that a tiger can lick a lion?" Nobody did, and everybody expressed surprise that the king of beasts finally had met his match. But just at that point some sourpuss said, "A grizzly bear could lick 'em both." That stopped everybody momentarily.

"Well, I don't know about that," said 3Ir. Lewis presently. "But anyway, a lion or a tiger would never meet a grizzly bear. You'd never find them in the same locality." "And you'd never find a lion and a tiger in the same locality either," persisted the sourpuss, "unless somebody put them there." There was some dispute about that. Lewis didn't agree. After all he had hunted tigers and lions in Africa. But he would not bet thit the tigers he hunted were natural inhabitants of Africa. He didn't know. Finally Mr. Bernie Frant, the sportin' tailor, moved in. "If Ed said he hunted tigers In Africa," he said, "I'll bet 10 fish that they were there naturally." The bet was covered. The debaters then called John Millen. the boss man at the Detroit Zoo. "Do lions and tigers occur in the same locality?" the questioner asked Mr. Millen. Mr. Millen said no, lions and tigers do not occur in the same locality. Lions are African animals and tigers are natives of Asia. Mr. Frant promptly laid out the 10 herrings and charged them off to education. Lion Can Beat Tiger, Trainer Jacobs Holdshttps://www.newspapers.com/newspage/98054180/

Well obviously the person in detroit zoo doesnt know about asiatic lions, but it seems terrell jacobs still favored the lion over the tiger, regardless what the other self per-claimed experts said. Its obvious that he would know more than a zoo keeper, because trainers mix the acts, and see first hand how lions and tigers interact with each other, a zoo keeper keeps them separate and wouldnt know who'd win.

Lion fights tiger

Terrifying scene at menagerie

An exciting incident has occurred at a traveling menagerie in Florence.
Whilst a tamer was engaged in his performance in the lions den, one of the animals managed to break through the door into the neighbouring den, which was a huge tiger. A fierce fight ensued between the beast, the tiger finally succumbing to ghastly wounds in neck. The lion also was badly bitten. In the meantime the visitors had fled panic-stricken, and the terrified tamer had disappeared from the scene.

in a combat between lion and tiger, the "lion invariably wins chiefly because of his mane, which serves both as visor and coat of mail, protecting both face and throat.

tiger from Slam and Ztmba is a two-year-old African lioness. Galm, superintendent of menageries, and Himberger, his assistant, placed them In the same cago at Central Park Zoo yesterday in the hope they will mate and produce a rare hybrid, a tiglon. > The two animals quivered with fear when they were brought together for the first time am: 'watched each other charily from a distance. Then, suddenly, the lioness attacked the tiger and for moment there was a fury of fighting. Then the animals separated, went Ig opposite ends of the cage and remained there. Liger, lion, tiger

(edited 7 years ago)
Nah, I dont need to repeort anyone, karma takes care of those who insults. Its obvious why hes insulting, no one seems to be looking into his threads he made, yet this thread is well over the average thread in views.

As for ligers, they have been around as long back as both lion and tiger were near each other, theres some stuff written around of wild ligers in the past, Raiah of bundi hunted both lions and tigers in the same area, and some of his art depicts big cats that look more like a liger than a tiger:

Bundi of Kota, North India, Second Half 18th century

Looks like a liger to me.

One of the oldest ones is of rome, a mosaic that shows a half lion half tiger via liger:

Dionysiac Mosaic of cupid or young Dionysos

Its interesting the people of india lack detailed art of lions and tigers in general, compared to persians, and the mughals, who have an entire glossary of lions in in the wild of india:

http://britishlibrary.typepad.co.uk/asian-and-african/2015/08/cats-in-persian-manuscripts.html

Ligers can actually be crossed back, and the line can go farther than just liger, it can go tiliger, liligon ect, this myth that they die 90% as cubs has been debunked by many scientist such as Dr antle of big cat rescue.
The tigers has no protection at the neck, they can have a big body, but whats at the neck?
Look at the size of a 650 lb tigers neck, it isnt even the full size of Clayton rosaires stomach area, now look at his lions neck area, its three times the size of claytons stomach area and twice his whole bodys size:

In many parts of that continent his dimensions considerably exceed those which have been mentioned as the average in the preceding part of this notice, the length being sometimes more than nine feet, and the height nearly five. The mane of the lion is not confined to the upper part of the neck, but surrounds it on the sides, and even on the chest below. It is very closely set; and the hair of which it is composed is, in the largest specimens, more than two feet in length.

A LION FOUGHT WITH A TIGAR BATTLE FOR LIFE AND DEATH IN ANIMAL SHOW.

Fierce Struggle Between Two Wild Animals That Were Seen Here During the Carnival Last January. A special from Springfield, Illinois, to aii exchange gives the following account of a battie to the death between two of the wild animals of the Gaskill- Mundy carnival company which showed in El Paso last January for the midwinter carnival: A tetrible battle took place last night in the animal show of the Gaskill-Mundy Carnival company between the huge lion Dewey and a tigress, resulting in the death of the latter. The fight occurred just as Colonel Mundy was preparing to give an exhibition of the wild animals. The lion and the tigress had been on bad terms for some time and it was feared before the exhibition began that trouble would result, but so serious a fight was not anticipated. Colonel Mundy brought the tigress into the large arena and then opened the door of the lion’s cage. Dewey, the largest of the lions, immediately jumped from the cage and sprang on the tigress, and the crowd was horrified to witness a terrific battle between the huge beasts. The lion dragged -the tigress slowly into her cage and would have killed her in a few moments if it had not been for the nerve of Colonel Mundy, who entered the.cage and succeeded in separating the-beast after a hard struggle.

Can a lion whip a tiger?" Is the lion, really, the boss of the. beasts? The zoo always hedges a little on this. The curator points out that the lion has more stamina, the tiger more strength. You might put it this way: If the tiger can get the edge in the first few minutes of the fight, he'll win. If it goes more than one round, put your money on the lion. But if it came to straight fisticuffs between the beasts, the zoo people would put their money on the huge Kodiak bear. There is a powerful baby! o STILL PEOPLE HAVE THE GREATEST interest in the lion which might give him claim to the king title. He isn't strictly an African beast. He once roamed a great part of Asia and still is found in parts of India. You know how big he gets up to 10 feet long and weighing 500 pounds but maybe you didn't know that some males could be called "baldy.

"Not all male lions grow those heavy manes, particularly among the Nubians, which makes it pretty hard for hunters to spot the boys from the girls. o CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF the lion cubs, like other members of the cat family, are born with their eyes closed. But there is a difference in eyes in the cat family if you get close enough to look. The big members lions, tigers, jaguars have round pupils. The smaller cats lynx, ocelot and common house cat have vertical or slit pupils to their eyes. The lion, being a meat eater, is quite a hunter himself Out at the Detroit Zoo he is fed 12 pounds of meat a day for six days of the week that is. On the seventh day he isn't fed a thing. o THAT'S BECAUSE IN THETiatural state the lion does not kill for food every day. And if he was fed seven days a week he would lose his gaunt look. Once a lion starts getting fat oddly he doesn't live long. Considering what a mighty hunter the lion is, it is a good thing he's on a diet part of the time.

The great trainer had just coaxed his famous spinning tiger, Sleika, off her pedestal. The trick is one of the act’s most fearful features, for the tiger crouches, belly to the ground, facing Beatty, the trainer’s eyes must be strictly on her, leaving both he and animal wide open to attack by the lions. But the real balance of terror, the act’s most perilous moment, comes when the big cat spins like a puppy chasing its tail, for this movement greatly excites the lions. Sleika was just going into her wind-up crouch when the old lion-tiger jungle hatred flared.A lion sprang from his high pedestal and landed within inches of the tiger. The two locked together, kicking up shavings and mud on the slippery ground, struggling fiercely for tooth-claw advantage.

Beatty grabbed a hickory stick that his cage boy, Junior was quick to push through the bars. Brandishing it, he rushed the flailing gladiators, blanking them (firing his gun) square in their snarling faces. Declaring the act official over, Beatty yelled to Junior to rattle the exit chute’s iron bars, standard cue for the animals to leave an arena. As the cats skedaddled out, helped along by prods from Junior, Beatty gave his troublemaker a whale of a clout on top of his murderous head, which made the lion let go the tiger’s neck long enough for the trainer to thrust his trusty chair between the two writhing beasts. The lion turned on him, which was exactly what he expected it to do, and the tiger bleeding slightly from the shoulder, scampered to the chute. Leo, plenty mad, clawed and bit the chair away from...

Prince had developed quite an affection for Beatty through the ears. In Kokmio, Ind., early In the reason, a tiger made for the trainer at rehearsal. It jumped him before he had time to square himself. The tiger was no more on Beatty, however, than a great brown body hot through the air. Prince was going Into the attack In defense of his trainer-friend. One of his forepaws slashed the tiger's throat, and the striped cat forgot Beatty pronto. "But our understanding was that a tiger was superior to a lion in a fight?" we said. "I dunno," the press agent shook hi head. "I know that when Prince and the tiger were separated, the tiger had a gash In her throat ten inches long, and had to be taken out of the act until It healed.

Bear Goes After Jaguar and Lion Steps

Friday Business Good-Many Incidents. There was another accident at the animal show this morning, but it was one of the animals and not one of the men that was hurt. Dewey, the lion, had a. paw badly chewed by a bear while trying to protect a jaguar from the bear. The carnival company said two polar bears that did a double act, but did not perform singly. One of these bears was killed by a lion about five weeks ago, and since then its mate has not performed at all. This morning he was let into the arena wit'Ii tho other animals to exercise, and he made an assault on the jaguar. Dewey, the lion, went to the rescue and the bear got 'him by the paw.

The male lions are apt to become jealous of the other males in the ring, they may balk at commands and may become murderous; "A few years ago we had three males but one'of them became impossible to work with. He was jealous of the other males. I didn't want to get rid of him but it finally NO MATCH AT ALt-Joseph 'Area- ris, Benson Wild Animal Farm trainer, spars with Rajah a 500 pound tiger. Two years ago Rajah clawed Arcaris while the trainer's back was turned. Arcaris said that he was lucky to escape with a (TtUgraohoto) clawing.

"If a tiger gets a hold with hi teeth he hangs on and will, refuse to release his grip. A lion will bite once and then let go to try again." Arcaris -has been clawed by the big cats several times but has only been bitten once--by a lion. anything could.be conquered. One day though he came after me and he broke the chair, then he broke the stick and the fork and he backed me to a 200 after that" : The thing that Arcaris has in his mind is that if on e of the cats really wanted to get him, Arcaris would not be ,able to stop 'him
" A tiger, Arcaris said, Is generally m o r e dangerous than a lion. He possesses greater speed. "A tiger is more high strung. The lion is slower to respond, clumsier. You can see a lion coming all the way but a tiger is faster, you don't have as much time." Yet* as fast as a tiger is Arcaris says the leopard is three tirnes as fast. "A lion, you can see him coming; a tiger is faster; a leopard is lightning."
