A bit random and irrelevant, but do you mind me asking why you chose to study biology and what you want to be doing after you graduate?

I was really unsure whether to choose between bio or computer science at the end of last year and i ended up choosing compsci. However i am having second thoughts...

Both are good subjects, and if I knew my CSS from my Java I would have considered compsci, but I just felt bio was a better fit than the other sciences and maths. It's the meta topic for sciences, as there is a bit of everything in it. That said, I would rather do bio and choose to specialise in a field later on rather than take biochem or biomed and find my options somewhat limited from the off. Meh, not a clue :tongue:

Something that'll get me a lot of money, perhaps xD

Hrm, I'm not sure what you can do. I suppose you could go out on a limb and ask to transfer but the two courses are really far apart so they may not see it as feasible.

What made you choose QM?

Nice, my mate did the science and engineering foundation programme and he said it was really good. What made you choose QM?

Mainly because of the reputation/league tables and because it's one of the top universities for Biology, but also because I live in Hertfordshire I can commute there from home. I also applied to Sussex, East Anglia, Essex which aren't too far from home, and Hertfordshire but I didn't like the course because it's mostly to do with Human Biology rather than all or most aspects. What about you?

I applied to a couple of other London unis and Durham, so I'm happy with QM. It's in quite a lively part of the city and there are many food shops nearby which factored more into my decision than I'd like to admit... What kind of societies and stuff do you want to join?

Thank you! For the foundation I think you need to have minimum CCC at A2 and 2 of them need to be science related. I got BCC in mine and I did Biology, Psychology and English Literature. I think as well as the usual Biology, Chemistry, Physics, you can have Mathematics or Geography as a science subject but I'm not 100% sure so you'll have to check!

I honestly have no idea! There are too many to choose from but I would love to do at least 2 or 3 if I have time haha! Maybe 1 sporty, 1 hobby type thing, and then 1 thing to help with the CV. Do you know which ones you will join?

I suppose the done thing is to join everything (with spam email in tow) and then whittle them down to a handful I find interesting, but given that a few of the socs need payment before you can join, that plan may be slightly scuppered.....Ah, you're being sensible with those transferable skills and CV help xD I can't really sit through that sort of thing. Mind you, a cursory look through the QM soc list highlights a couple of, interesting, options haha

Have you received any more correspondence from QM about your course or stuff to be aware of in September?

I went through the other day and narrowed it down to 10 societies and 4 sports clubs but that's still way too many! Hopefully I'll be able to attend all of the taster sessions and stuff during freshers and that will help me decide!
No I haven't received anything yet, just a well done for your securing your place kind of email yesterday. Have you received anything?

Yeah they said something about a starter pack, hopefully it will be something useful! I've been receiving useless letters from UCAS since accepting my place about accommodation and stuff...

What kind of societies/clubs are you thinking about?

You're not really ever going to have so much new stuff to try out, so I'd say go to everything for a bit and then whittle down the ones you like and want to keep on taking.

That starter pack just conjures up memes for starter packs xD the QMUL freshers starter pack would be... well, I dunno, what would you pick? I've been advised by UCAS multiple times to consider studying in Scotland, which I took as a sly dig :tongue:

But no, it was all just computerised advertising (apparently). Ooooo, I'd like to try out almost everything, really xD Set up a fake email for all the soc spam to accumulate and then bin the rubbish ones, really. The only soc I can really say I'll deffo do for my entire time at uni is the disco society. Love to splash a bit of UV paint on and pretend it's 1983...
