Yes you do have to pay. And I believe jobs on campus are reserved for 2nd years plus, certainly this was the case a couple of years ago- they have a big recruitment drive every spring. There are plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants who will take students on though that you can try.
Hey just wondering if I should get a wristband for freshers week or just tickets for each event? How much are individual tickets and are events hard to get into if you don't buy before?

I know a couple of people who are going into their second year at UEA (i'll be starting my first year this September!) and they recommend getting individual tickets unless you know *for sure* that you will be going to every event when you buy the wristband.

There's also a chance that your flatmates might not have bought the wristband beforehand so you'll have to go to these events by yourself. It's probably a good idea to ask your flatmates if they would be interested in going with you and buy the tickets together. You guys can just pick and choose which events you want to go to.

Btw, UEA has yet to release prices for individual tickets but once they update it, you can check ueafreshers.com for events & pricing.

I bought the wristband, and about half my flat also had the wristband. If you're going to buy individual tickets, the difficulty you'll have is that if you leave it till fresher's week, then you'll risk not being able to buy one, and having to try get one on the exchange, which can be a pain... I think if you think you'll go to at least half the events, it's worth buying the wristband, out of convenience especially, and having the choice... Whilst not all your flatmates will have the wristband (unlikely), you'll meet loads of others who have the wristband and you may go out with them as well!
At what time do buses pick you up to go to the city centre and vice versa? And how many times in a day?

From campus you can get the 25/26 into the city centre. Depending on how busy it is, they can be about 20 mins! During the day they're very frequent and you should be able to get one ever 5-10 mins. During the evenings. they're a bit less frequent, every 15 or so mins I believe!

Up to you - you can get a bus pass for £199 to cover the uni year to go anywhere in Norwich, or it's £3 for a young person's return... Depending on how many times you think you'll go, it may or may not be worth getting a bus pass. I never bothered tbh, but will for second year....!
So got my offer in Nelsons court now what? I wanna see my timetable and all dat stuff :/ and is norwich city centre expensive(how long does it take to walk there from campus?) Are the jobs on campus for first years? Is there anyway I can see whose on my accom @mobbsy91

you need to make sure you've accepted your offer and done the induction stuff! Then soon you'll get an email from the uni regarding registration. This'll have information about setting passwords, and accessing your timetable etc... The timetables aren't all finished yet (they're sorting some clashes) but hopefully when they email the registration stuff it'll be ready!

City centre is relatively cheap, especially compared to other cities. I think about 30-40 min walk, or £3 bus return, or you can get bus pass. Jobs on campus are for 2nd year up, but in spring they advertise so you can apply then.
Also, I think soon they'll be sending out an email with links to FB groups for your accommodation, but this may be done when most people have accepted their accom offers!

@University of East Anglia - do you know if the accom office are definitely sending out links for the FB groups this year??

Hi Mobbsy, I can confirm the accommodation office will be running the Facebook groups. These are already active for those who were sent offers in June, and we'll be inviting a further 1800 later in the week once more people have received their offers

ok when paying for accomodation can i pay the whole bulk sum for a semster's rent in 3 instalments? So like autumn semster, i wana get the rent out of the way...

Are terms and semsters the same - confused by this
For Students starting in September instalments will be due in October, January and May

I can't remember the terms for which you can pay it to be honest! But yes, terms and semester are the same thing - I think technically at UEA we have two semesters, just the Spring semester starts in Jan, takes a break for easter, and then finishes after easter, rather than having the bit after easter as a Summer semester!

As I'm local, I won't be staying in student accommodation. Will this mean that I'll miss out on things eg, making friends, nights out and socialising in general. Will people have already made friends before?

Hi I'm a local student too and I am also worried about this 😕

You both need to connect and you'll already have a friend in the same position  I've been in the same position when I was a student - I can assure you things eventually click into place if you make the effort, it just might take a bit longer than those already living on campus
