I think that the plan will be to leave things as they are, then, once I have got the HP fully up and running, with everything installed, then the Acer goes into hibernation.
One day in the future I shall attempt to fix the overheating by pulling everything out per this guide and then replacing the fan and thermal grease.
If it fixes the overheating issue then the Acer will become a backup PC.
If it still overheats then it will be sold with a smaller, cheaper HDD (with my HDD being removed) and the original battery. My 9 cell battery that I have will be sold separately.

Yeah, it's not practical to have a laptop as your main computer, which is currently running in the 90's C....
