I would do some calculations.
For example, I did when I was thinking of uni's to go to. One was about an hour by train, would cost about £15 a day going there and back with discount. Only taking 4 days that would already cost £60 a week. And you lose over 8 hours just traveling. Probably more like 12 as you need to get to the train, wait for it and walk to uni/home.
A double room in a shared house by the uni can be rented for about £80 a week with bills. I would rather take those 8 hours to work and get the extra I need for food than commute in this case. Plus you also get a bigger loan anyway, are not as limited when trying to socialise with your mates and also have full access to the uni facilities whenever you need to use them instead of the days you're in or having to pay for travel.
It's just making a list of pros and cons.
