Should I commute everyday or buy an accomodation?
Im about to start uni at the end of september 2016. I am 18 years of age and am likely commute on train or make a last minute decision in renting a place.I just wanted to know if I could hack going from uni of hert to london everyday. Its a 1 hour and 20 min commutting there and back. I know its a long commute but do you guys think I should get a place near there?I seriously dont know what to do. Some people are telling me to commute there everyday while some are telling me to live near there because I could have spent '1 hours and 20 mins studying' and commuting is less of an headache.However I do have unlimited internet on a dongle and could use the train to study on my laptop and complete projects etc.One of my family members whom is a doctor told me I should commute at first but when I have major exams, I should rent a place near there.

Who says you can't study on the train/bus? 1 hr 20 is long but is doable. My journey to work is 1 hour 30 and I cope with it just fine. Find something to do like read books, play games on your phone or sleep to pass the time. It is up to you though, you'll save more money in the long run but at the expense of the hours lost from commuting? That's something for you to decide but I think 1 hour 20 isn't too bad, especially if it's a direct train.

It depends on your degree. Year 1 tends to be the busiest in terms of classes, so at least 3-4 days but you need to check your timetable because it's different for everyone.
I would do some calculations.
For example, I did when I was thinking of uni's to go to. One was about an hour by train, would cost about £15 a day going there and back with discount. Only taking 4 days that would already cost £60 a week. And you lose over 8 hours just traveling. Probably more like 12 as you need to get to the train, wait for it and walk to uni/home.
A double room in a shared house by the uni can be rented for about £80 a week with bills. I would rather take those 8 hours to work and get the extra I need for food than commute in this case. Plus you also get a bigger loan anyway, are not as limited when trying to socialise with your mates and also have full access to the uni facilities whenever you need to use them instead of the days you're in or having to pay for travel.
It's just making a list of pros and cons.

Renting is better if your that far away because it's not 1h 20m on the train it's 2h 40m because you have to get back as well you do have internet but you can't get good work done on the train any graduate or uni student can tell you that. You see people with their notes and thing s out but usually it's just house keeping organising and things like that no "good" work or study is done while travelling.
Your social life will also suffer you won't get to events if it's 1h20m in also think of the cost if your in every day (yes it does happen) your looking at at leas £100 a week where a room can be as little as £60 a week with a commute that long making friends will be hard not impossible but hard and what about delays missing lectures even exams not good. and breaks you have some super long breaks in uni I had a nine yes nine hour break in second year and while a 3 or 4 hour break s ok you can study you can't do that for 9 hours I guess you could go to the cinema or something but no renting is a much better option.
