Physics vs medcine?

OK,I'm am currently going to go into y11 GCSE's...I have considered career option in engineering and physics(physicist)/Surgeon...

I personally absolutely love physics(And engineering) and it is one of my if not only true life passion...I'm intrigued by every aspect of it and i would like to study physics at oxford...

My DAD is a surgeon and my mum and dad are persuading me into a career in medicine and to be more specific:as a surgeon...

They list the benefits of the career on relation to physics /engineering such asigh pay,Respect,Easier for me due to dad being a surgeon,ETC...

I'm so confused ye determined on selecting a career so please could you assist me?

Also,Please don't say do your passion and its not for money as i am interested in medicine as well.

Thanks.

it sounds to me like you already know the answer. Also, engineering/physics are not a disrespected careers, wth. (why do so many doctors have a stick up their **** about it being the only respectable career?)

I think it is because doctors consider other careers like physics or engineering to be respectable but nowhere near as much as their own(medicine) as they are though of semi-gods in the public and in a survey the most respected professions results were the doctors and nurses...

Respected by who exactly? Respected by Billy Bob Joe who couldn't guess what aeronautical engineers did to save his life?

Everyone knows that being a doctor is a clever and well paid job. It is by no means the only well paid and difficult job. I think the only reason so many people aspire to be a doctor is because they don't know about the range of other academic jobs.

I personally have far more respect for the people who come up with treatments etc than those who administer them (not saying being a doctor is bad though). There is a thread here on TSR called "Most overrated degree in your imo" and medicine is one of the most common responses.

Anyway, this is besides the point. Neither path is one which wont be respected (and if someone does disrespect it then their opinion is just stupid). At the end of the day nobody can decide for you and nobody should. You've said physics is your "true life passion" so i know what I'd urge you to do.

THANKS SO MUCH!

You are one of the most subjective yet interesting people i have talked to in these forums!

Also,In relation to money is there anyway for physicist to make more as engineer can satrt companies and surgeons can start private practice so what can physicist do to make their fortune?

Also what are the best places to work in physics so like CERN or NASA?

Also,i Agree with your opinions...Thanks.

Medicine is rote learning and memorizing. Nowhere nearly intellectual as physics .
Doctors are dumb iditos. and about the part their apathy towards other profession, lol thats because they are dumb as hell, narrowmined , ignorant
what do you expect from dumb ***** who just memorize chits and have no creativity or innovations. if you put a 100th ranked physicist / engineer and the topmost doc in world side by side , the doc will look like a fool. Elon musk can buy any doctor in the world
doctor s are robber who rob people of money. bunch of clown and dumbass

As someone, who works in hospitals daily, doctors that aren't specialised, are very dumb. Honestly, I question their judgement everyday. Physicists and their insight is on another level.
I would put it like this in ranking
Physics
Engineering chemical at the top, due to the pay
Medicine
