Hi I'm Kryptonian and I got 3 GCSEs. I want to do A levels but we'll have to see what awaits me as all the sixth forms want 5A*-C so even I'm uncertain what's to come... :smile:

When is everyone starting college/sixth form

6th September.
Have to go in for an hour on the 1st to pick options.
Introduce yourself
so ducklings, my name's bluebookie and I'm 16 years old. I did ok in my GCSE's, not amazing, but ok. (4 A's, 4 C's, 2 B's and an E in Art, )
But, that E was pretty much a given, tbh.
- What are your hobbies and interests?
I am mostly either editing content, on Youtube, binging Asian dramas, or eating. Sometimes all those things at the same time, especially during the summer. (I went outside very few times, most recently for school supplies)
- What subjects are you planning to take?
I had to change three of my original subjects I applied with, due to not meeting entry requirements, subject availability, and timetable issues.
Psychology -> Psychology
English Lit -> English Combined
Film -> Philosophy
History -> French
That French seems random, but I enjoy the subject and got an A. I also aspire to be a polygot, so taking French to A Level is really good for me. :smile:
- Your favourite subject(s)?
English, English, English,- French was fun too
looking forward to doing philosophy and psych next year for the first time,
- Your ideal future occupation?
I'm hoping to go into media production, though I'm not sure I'll make it. (people have pretty much been trying to drill that idea straight out of my head, even strangers)
I aspire to be a director, script writer/supervisor or go into the editing and post-production field. I don't care what people will say about my A Levels or aspirations, it's my choice and it's what I'm happy with. (if I do manage to master the languages I want to, I might also consider translating, but for now I definitely want to go into film) :smile:

^I start school on Thurs for the induction/first day, and it's a new school in a completely different area. RIP
- Introduce yourself

Hi, I'm 17 - after having been home-schooled for seven years, I returned to school two years ago, which led to my deciding to resit Year 10 so that I had enough time to complete coursework and enhance my chances of achieving the best possible grades. Despite experiencing struggles (mostly because of other peoples' inabilities to accept me due to my refusal to conform for the sake of having an 'easier' time among my peers), I managed to get into my first-choice sixth form - one of the best performing grammar schools in the country - and I don't regret going back a year as it has enabled me to flourish. In the end, I achieved 3A*s, 5As and 2Bs (though, if re-marks go in my favour, four of the As may change into A*s) - solid proof that, if you put your mind to it and work hard, anything is possible (thus proving that home-schoolers are not a bunch of unsocialised weirdos)! Am starting sixth form next Monday and cannot wait - never again will I have to study the cells of a leaf! Also, my really good friend from my former school is going to the same sixth form as me, which makes me feel more confident as I'm initially quite shy around others. :smile:

- What are your hobbies and interests?
I regularly go to Zumba which, despite not being the sportiest person, has given me a perfect platform for ridding myself of any stress - if I've gained anything this summer, it is that exercise refreshes my mind and gives me a new perspective on things. Also, I love writing articles - ideally, I dream of working as a journalist, though media is such a hard industry to break into - while Netflix has become my saviour of the summer; I utterly love French films because they beautifully capture French culture, which makes me all the more desperate to visit the country!

- What subjects are you planning to take?
English Literature, French, Sociology and Media Studies (a 'soft' choice perhaps, but I want to enjoy my studies - essential for maximising my chances of achieving good grades). General Studies is compulsory in my school and, unlike some, I'll make an effort to revise for it. :tongue:

- Your favourite subject(s)?
English Literature is my idea of sheer heaven because I love reading (bookworm alert!), yet I'm very passionate about Frencb because I taught it myself whilst being home-schooled, so it is quite important and precious to me if that makes sense!

- Your ideal future occupcation?
Ideally, I would love nothing more than to become a journalist, yet I don't think that trying to break into an overcrowded and competitive industry is wise if I want to earna decent salary. Therefore, I'm looking into becoming an English/French teacher because I like the idea of inspiring future generations to pursue their dreams and discover a passion for learning, which I view as utterly priceless.

Does anyone know if I'd be able to get into medicine with 2 A*, 8 A's and 2 B's (which might get contested seeing as in French I had 2 A* in reading and listening, an A in speaking and then a D in writing which is crazy as i was certain I'd done all to get a C at least (the guideline for a C was simply use two tenses- I definitely did that! I'm thinking perhaps they lost one of the two courseworks?)
My mum spoke to a doctor the other day at her work and he seems to think I'll be fine since there will be less applicants to medicine when I apply since the junior doctor crisis recently. A friend says she knows a med student that got C's at GCSE but I find that unbelievable.

Should be fine as long as you apply wisely. :smile:

what other subjects are you doing, because im doing maths,physics,biology and chemistry,and am worried that taking the EPQ would be too far, and my grades would drop by quite a big margin.

English lit, History and Sociology, so hopefully the EPQ wouldn't be much of a burden, whereas with you you're doing four subjects which are all pretty heavy and require a lot of time, and an EPQ I've heard also requires a lot of research time. So unless you are certain you want to do it then maybe speak to a teacher first, or trial it out for a week.

I'm just very thankful I have no official exams this year I have mocks but no As exams! Yay

When do you guys start sixth form/college?

Monday.
Introduce yourself
Hi, everyone! I call myself K-Man_PhysCheM on this forum because my friends call me K-Man and I like Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Music. As one might expect from the fact I am posting on here, I am going into Year 12 this September, staying at the same school that I was at for GCSEs.
At GCSE, I achieved a set of 13 straight As/A*s (including an A* with distinction in AQA Level 2 Further Maths).

- What are your hobbies and interests?
Besides the sciences, I really love (classical) music: this week I've done a Beethoven Symphony Marathon, which may sound dull for many, but I love Beethoven's music, and his development as a composer is truly astonishing, from almost child-like "Mozartian" to momentous genius. He's also very inspiring, because, despite the fact he had gone deaf and had gone through a huge falling-out with his nephew Karl, he still managed to write one of the happiest pieces of music ever: "Ode to Joy", now the European Anthem, included within the final movement of his 9th Symphony.

Myself, I play the flute and piano to a reasonably high standard (Grade 8 Distinction in both) and I have written a (not very good) Symphony and many other works: recently, I set Shakespeare's "Sonnet 18" to music (it was one of my CIE IGCSE English set poems). You'd think I should study music, though under family pressure I am forced to take science A-levels, and my parents want me to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge, which I know I would enjoy... just not as much as music.

- What subjects are you planning to take?
Mathematics
Further Mathematics
Physics
Chemistry
Biology (ugh, don't really want to)

Hopefully, I can squeeze in Music, but if I really want to get into a music college, showing my compositions and music theory grades might be enough.

And I'm fluent in Spanish, so (after a little preparation) may also sit Spanish A-level.

- Your favourite subject(s)?
Music, as mentioned before.
Then, Physics.

- Your ideal future occupation?
Composer, or some practical physicist (not theoretical), or even vulcanologist! (I am not driven by money).

I wish everyone the best of luck for their next 2 years at Sixth Form! (or whatever else you may be doing).

Nice, I haven't done any learning at all for A level yet, I'm going to start in these next 12 days though. How are you learning maths? What website/textbook do you use?
Just got home from work. I scanned like 800 packages. R.I.P me when term starts.
