massive dilemma and i'm so confused, pleease help me!!

yikes... i don't have any specialist advice, sorry, but do you like the look of biomed at sheffield? i don't think it's ever a great idea to buckle about something because people are pressuring you, but also doing something heedless of the advice of people who know the situation...

does anyone have experience with this kind of situation?

Just do what you want to do. A gap year would be fun but so would a BSc. Graduate entry medicine is more competitive but you'll have a number of years in which to sharpen your application. You might not get a medical school offer if you re-apply next year, even with AAA. That said, if you go to Sheffield, you might even come to your senses and decide to become an investment banker instead when you graduate ;-)

Your parents might have given you a deadline of tomorrow (I can't imagine why) but really you have as long as you need to make the decision. You can't know what is best because you can't tell the future so just weigh up everything and then do what feels right.

(I took a gap year then did a BSc then medical school and still don't feel in a rush to decide what I'm doing with life...)

Ok the situation is that on results day i managed to get AAB, and since I got no offers for medicine I was happy with it and accepted my offer for biomedical science at the university of sheffield. In the time since then I've bought all the things I will need for uni, met a load of people on my course, received and confirmed my accommodation and booked and payed for a lot of events in freshers week.

Now the problem is, the B was only three marks off of an A, so I went in for a few remarks and ended up pushing it to an A, so I now have 3 A's. I wanted to do this only because I'm a bit stubborn and wanted three A's under my belt just in case. My plan was to do biomedical science and then try for graduate entry medicine.

Now the problem is I am being pressured by one of my parents into taking a gap year and applying for medicine. I really don't want to do this and would not enjoy a gap year, but i'm being convinced it's the only way i can get in to medicine and am seriously conflicted.

The problems with graduate entry medicine are that it apparently is so much harder to get into, and I may not be able to afford it. I feel deep down it would be a decent choice to take a gap year, but then i would have to redo my UKCAT and go through the entire application process again, all while watching my brother and sister (triplets) go off to uni. Something I'm also very worried about is cancelling on sheffield. I will be losing a lot of money for freshers events, messing around accommodation and leaving behind a lot of amazing people i've spent weeks getting to know and love. I'm so confused about what I should do.

My parents have given me until tomorrow to decide. Please anyone in a similar situation or with any insights can you offer some advice because this is literally killing me lmao like i have no idea what i should do. I want to do biomed but my mum is convincing me i will 100% not get in postgraduate medicine and i'm very worried ((

Here is what I'd do if I was in your position.
Go on a gap year, get some work experience, or even do a bit of travelling. Prepare for UKCAT too, you have an entire year for it.

One year is nothing, it will fly. I took a gap year and it was awesome !

Then apply again to med school. The reason : Graduate entry is at least twice as hard to get into, and financing will be relatively hard too. But not impossible ! Lots of people do choose this route, but there is no certainty.

But if you think you'll enjoy biomedical science, don't let anyone stop you from doing it.

And don't let what your siblings are doing affect your life-changing decisions.

thank you i am swaying more towards biomed at this point but im still quite conflicted because at this stage taking a gap year is a huge change and i dont think i would like it, but its weighing up the chances of getting in i guess

Yeah, from what you say, I'm getting the idea that you are ready to go biomed. In which case, stop listening to others and follow what you desire. So, go do it, enjoy it and prepare to apply for grad entry medicine.

Plus, the biomed at sheffield sounds fun. You'll love dissections

yeah thank you i know i will love it! plus thats three more years to get a buttload of experience and prepare, and ultimately i will be better off after it, even if i may have struggles in the future
