Let me make this easy for freshers. You will join many because they bribe you with vouchers/free food you might attend one or two a couple of times but in general you will get bored and say sod it.

Free food? I'm in

Oh ho ho. There's a **** ton of pain in the locks. But you're supposed to slowly lock and let go when the person taps anyway so it shouldn't be that bad. But be careful if you don't have a good partner.. I once nearly cried from the pain because my partner was really ****ing me up with sankyo.

Hmm that's sounds like tons of fun! Can't wait to join! Lol, I'll see how it goes

When I'll go to university... 0, there to study not to focus on socialising.

If this is the case, you fundamentally misunderstand the value of university and education in general.

Only plan on joining the LGBT society this year. Would have gone waaaaay more last year, except I was doing 2 loads of volunteer work last year which always overlapped with the societies meetings... =(

Basically to mingle with people with similar interests and make friends.

Are there any free speech societies at any uni? Now that would be something I'd be interested in.

You can do both, you know...?

During sixth form, I did two hours of dance, two hours (+ extras like camps) of being a scout leader and two hours of scouts a week, as well finishing my silver DofE and completing my gold DofE. I also "focused on studying"... I got A*A*A* in my A levels and AAAAAB(B) in my ASs. It isn't an "either, or".

I'll be continuing with what I already do by joining the student scout and guide organisation, the hiking society, the ballet society and the dance society, and starting octopush. I'll also be working for a first.

3 or 4 probably - LawSoc, a political one, and then one or two i find interesting (not sure what)

I want to get involved and socialise but don't want to be so overwhelmed and neglect my studies
