Your five/ten year plan..

Cool thread!

1. Start uni, hopefully make some more great friends, and find out what I actually want to specialise in and what interests me most in the subject. Try and get some experience, and apply for some jobs nearer the end/in the fourth year.

2. Finish my MSci degree of course, and do as well as I can. Hopefully I'll be even more sure of what I want to do. Ideal circumstance would be that I can get a job soon after uni and get as much experience as possible to work my way up. I'd love to be able to work in a lab, and go into research.

3. I'm toying with the idea of going to Canada, during uni, or afterwards to work.

4. Also considering doing a PhD to open up some more prospects.

5. Find that special someone, as cheesy as it sounds. A really good friend who I love, and am attracted to, and feels the same way about me and is willing to have a family. But I definitely want at least one kid by the time I'm 30 with or without a partner.

6. And I really want a black cat.

So by 28, in a perfect world, I'd like to have a career in research, be a doctor, live in Canada, be married, have one or more kids, and a black cat. I actually have a good idea what kids and cat would be called.

Aww thank you! :h: How are your studies going so far?

I'm doing Media, English Literature and English Language but I've found a way onto Biomed for two years time so hence why the gap year.

Great subjects:smile:

And i am moving on to second year of college.

If you don't mind me asking which way.
It's not exactly something I've thought hard about but in the next ten years I would like to:

1. Finish my CompSci degree and get a 1:1 or a 1:2
2. Consider doing an MSc, don't think I'd have the patience to do a Ph.D and do well
3. Look into work opportunities, perhaps abroad in North America or Europe
4. Regardless of the above find work in either software or system administration
5. .... Work there
6. Make enough money to not have to worry about loans or student debt.
7. Don't die during any of the above six steps.
1. Get a crap i dont guve rats ass about and still a full time depressed personw
2.Pass my degree in health abd social care and aim towards social care management
Be successful.

Aww :hugs: thank you so much. Honestly, it's great at this age that you have a plan. I won't lie, if you look at my old posts on TSR from a year ago, an English degree was what I wanted to do and venture into script writing and possibly Law or journalism but it took me a long time to realise now what I want to do. I spoke to people, gained knowledge and insight and I am now making sure I get to my dream. Once you get to sixth form, you may change your plans a few times but promise once you do your exams and have a clear idea on grades and what you are good at, it'll be all clear. All the best of luck lovely! :h:

Thankyou, you sayin you were unsure really helps reassure me that you don't have to be certain of your future so soon. If you weren't sure either, how were you able to decide on what a levels to take?

Either a foundation year, taking on Biology and Chemistry at A Level or some Access to HE course but I am leering towards the first two. And aww what subjects are you doing?

I can't believe it but you are right, the 'bear' I was discussing is completely different haha. You can tell I have no passion for English anymore. That handwriting is erm, I can't explain it but I'll show you mine later on. It's nice but it is a bit feminine I can't lie. There's this guy in my Lit class and he has such beautiful handwriting it's not readable

I think I've found my first human dissection

Like I told someone above, you don't go into a job for the money but for the love and passion you have and the fact that you are saving lives, oops sorry forgot you aren't becoming a doctor. All you will do is write up Maths equations.

It's okay, imagine me when I discovered there was an 'n' in government  :getmecoat :hide:

It's 'erm'?!?!?! are you calling my handwriting feminine, or yours? :K:  reading that guy's work I see.

:teehee:

Yeah of course, I know that with anything in life (work, studies, etc...) if it's not enjoyable then don't do it if you can help it, ya know. I like the sound of it and the money is a nice bonus  and the decent hours  and maybe some travel if I'm lucky..

I don't do A levels, I do BTEC health and social care in the hope of become a pediatric nurse.

Its great to know you are interested in healthcare.
My 5 year plan is finish my grad scheme, have kids and buy a house. I don't have a 10 year plan. 10 years is far away.

To be fair, most students will be unsure and will have no idea of what career to take simply because they may choose subjects at A Level that are broad and so they don't know which subject to take on at further education. It's hard I know, you are so young and yet to choose your A Level options. Yes you should pick the subjects you are naturally good at, but also look for a challenge and something you want to improve at. Honestly I chose all Humanities subjects at A Level as I wanted to do an English degree, my teachers strongly wanted me to do the subjects and I got really high grades in them at GCSE so it was just something I did. Albeit after I started sixth form I had reservations of what to do, I hated the subjects but that's because of the teachers I had and still have. I like my subjects now but they aren't what I want to do at University anymore. If you ever want a chat, my PM's are always open.

:hugs:
1. finish degree and find girlfriend/boyfriend
2a. travel world and/or find a job
or 2b. become professional gamer (have my doubts about the probability of success here)
1. Become the happy, fun me that I know I am and kick that depressive state for good

2. Ensure my broken leg of two years finally heals and I get rid of the chronic nerve pain

3. Finish my A levels next summer

4. Study Psychology at Newcastle and graduate with a 1st

5. Complete a masters

6. Gain experience in clinical psychology

7. Gain entrance onto the doctorate for clinical psychology

Now I'm going to say the 'n' in government, and I sound so ridiculous.. so glad I didn't choose Politics as a career.
Well on the handwriting thread your handwriting is like, not even writing, it's like a 'bear' did it. I can't bear to look at it.. And naah my handwriting isn't feminine at all, yours is that's what I was alluding. Funny that, I think we write the same. You sure you didn't steal my notes

Ah yeah I hear ya, but the name of the career is so ambiguous, like it could mean anything.
