Oh and always were black shoes with a black suit.

And, top tip for shoes (and suits for that matter) : "never brown when in town"

It seems to still be a thing: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/sep/02/city-of-london-dress-code-brown-shoes-finance
Hey all, there's another #CambTweet Q&A this weekend on twitter, Sunday 18th at 9pm! Tag your questions with the hashtag or tweet directly to the accounts - there are ones for most subjects, with students from a variety of colleges. Current students ready to answer any questions at all that you have - no such thing as a stupid question!

Still their 'dress code' in the city now seems much more relaxed than when I was working there. When I go there these days, I occasionally see a few guys who are wearing a jacket in a colour that was unthinkable in my days......
And most of them aren't wearing a tie!!

One of my old colleagues in the city came to the office one day with one black shoe and one brown shoe. He only noticed when his assistant pointed out. Apparently he wasn't quite awake when he put them on when he left his home.......

I've done that... I only noticed it in the middle of a client pitch.

We won the pitch

You know, I'm pretty sure we had this conversation before.......
Just remembered when you said you'd win the pitch.

Two oldies repeating a same conversation again and again.........

At least the pitch was still won in this version

It's up to you; but yes it would probably be a good idea... Dinner jacket + trousers. You can't mismatch a dinner jacket with ordinary trousers. You'd be blackballed for that

Oh, someone said a black suit is fine.
I might just go home sometimes for sat/sun 2/3 times in the term since im rather close.
Why is it not allowed, and how would they find out.
We dont have like meetings or anything on a sunday do we?

You have to sign out if you leave because of fire regs. If you leave too often you might not make term (you have to be in Cambridge a minimum number of nights to graduate).

In practice you can leave, just make friends with your fire warden and tell them when you're leaving.

You may have supervisions on Sat/Sun.

Is the rule stricter than a couple of years ago??
Or is your college stricter than others?

I know it's in the rule, but I hardly know anyone who actually sign out when they leave their college for a night in a weekend.
If it's longer than a few days, probably better to sign out properly (or at least let your friends in your corridor know), but other than that, it's quite free, isn't it? (Unless you miss a supervision or lecture)
