how do you solve this?

36^(1/2)*3^-1
the calculator says the answer is 2 but i am not able to get 2 when i try to work it out
36 to the power of a half is the square root of 36 so 6
3 to the power of -1 is 1/3
1/3 of 6 is 2
hope that helps :smile:

anything to the power of 0.5 is the same thing as square rooting it.
when you put something to the power of a negative number, x^-a, it is the same as 1/x^a.

then you just multiply the two components together

36^(1/2) is the same as the square root of 36 so that's 6.
3^(-1) is the same as 1/3 so this equation becomes 6*(1/3) or 6/3 which =2
I read it as:
3612×31 36^\frac{1}{2} \times 3^{-1}
