I'm a bit conflicted. I just had my first day which was fine, if a little dull. But it turns out we have to do statistics for maths. Which is fine but the teacher is adamant that if we want to do mechanics we have to do further maths because none of the class want to learn it. He seems very supportive about it but seeing as I've already got a full time table I really can't pick up an extra AS.

So what he's suggested is that I self teach Further Maths outside of class and he'll give me some assisted learning and help outside of class. Further maths is great especially considering I want to do physics at uni and he's been really generous about it. I'm just worried about picking up an extra AS considering I'm sort of already doing five. I've talked about doing just mechanics but the college seem reluctant and this really seems the best way to do it.

I don't know just ugh... It just wasn't something that I'd considered before until today and I'm just feeling really conflicted about it all.

I feel you. I will be doing FM and my school insists that students have to do statistics modules which is pretty frustrating. Will try to persuade my teacher to offer mechanics but I will self study most of if, and I wish you well. Just a tip, before you begin M1-2, brush over vectors. Not just GCSE vectors but how to resolve vectors, and polish up on your sine and cosine rule as there will be tons of them in questions.

Don't fret. I think quite a few of us here are okay at Maths so we can help you and there are tons of other people on TSR that can help you as well.

Good luck.

Cheers. It's just been really frustrating in that area but I think I'm getting more okay with the idea of it. Just really wasn't what I was expecting.

And thanks, I definitely will brush up on vectors.
@Enigmatically will tutor us year 12'ers in Maths.
I can't up vote your post for some wierd reason. :I

Lol yeah I am pretty much here to help. @ColossalAtom wil steer us into BMAT success and fill medicine lecture halls with TSRarians. Let us make it big guys, the future of the U.K. is on our shoulders.

P.S. Message me if you need help.

This looks interesting, might as well join in!

Hi Peeps,
My name's Michelle, 16 years old, just started yr12 like the rest of you I'm sure.
Not many hobbies, but: reading, socialising (if it counts), going to the gym and art&photo manipulation )

I'm taking: -Economics -Geography -English Lit.

Considered doing an AS or the EPQ, but I've heard some Uni's don't even regard it so much, so I suppose it's better to concentrate and spend more time on the subjects I've picked instead to get a better grade.

..I'm also here for advice to be honest.. I really REALLY enjoy art and photo manipulation to the point I got an A* in my Art GCSE Final Result, and kind of wanted to take it for A-Levels, but took English instead because it's valued more and I suppose it gives me more uni (and career) course choices in future.. and my mum pretty much disregarded even the idea of doing art.

Any opinions on this? (I got an A in english lit, which surprised me very much- as I was only expecting a B).
Did I make the right decision in doing English Lit. rather than Fine Art?

Hey Michelle! If you got an A*, and really enjoy the subject, you should consider taking art.
I had my first Fine art lesson today, I met so many other arty people and we get to go on trips and lots of opportunities. I would never take a subject becuase it's more 'valued'. Every subject is equally hard- it's myth from 10 years ago that some of them are harder. (My teachers have told me.) They're only harder if you don't like learning them.
Do what you like best and you will get the results you'll want! If you don't take it you might never get a chance to to it later in life. (Besides, isn't it a nice break from all the writing subjects?)
Unless you need that english for your uni of course.

You're obligated to since you mentioned you're an aspiring mathmo. Yes, the future of the UK was born in the year of 2000.
Heeey! Am absolutely ready for something new! Set of sites is ready to. Essayskills.com is waiting for me and for my new orders

The day I become a Trinmo is they day when I have a testicle surgically removed (maybe by you) from my two friends who bet against me with their left nuts. Might do engineering as well (tried their preadmission test and it wasn't that hard at all). What a year 2018 will be XD. What college are you going to apply to or are you still sifting through?

I thought about Gonville & Caius college, because they claim that they are unmatched in medicine compared to other colleges. One of the founders of that college was a physician, so I guess it makes sense. They also take the most medical students out of the other colleges (like 22-24 in total). I went to an open day this year, but I spent most of my time at sessions like 'Introduction to Cambridge', 'Student finance' and some other things that was time consuming. So I didn't do a thorough research on all the colleges I can apply to. I might go to another open day in 2017.

What about you?
Caius would be good for you I guess as it is close to where the practical medical tests occur.

I'm a Trinity College aspirant. Richest college so generally cheaper accommodation and food, if you get a first you get nice Scholar benefits (like £1000) and accommodation is quality. Just have an affinity towards it.

Will you be taking part in any super-curricula activities like Olympiads? There is one for Biology and one for Medicine if that floats your boat. Beefs up your application and helps you to learn something a bit advanced earlier which could help in the future.

Don't think I can on top of studies and working part-time. I can beef it up other ways.

It's all a bit mad, I love my new school and I've made great friends there but the work has already sort of overwhelmed me. I started work yesterday and I already have 3 essays due in on Friday. But it's all good because I'm keeping on top of things and reading ahead.

How are you

Nice!! That's great! We've been welcoming newbies at my school as well. How many 'study periods' do you have? :mmm:

I'm fine, thanks. I've come to my senses about the enormity of Biology. I'm really enjoying Chemistry and we haven't done too much in Maths yet. ++

Anyone doing computer science here ?
@ColossalAtom

Hi! I'm homeland.lsw and I guess I'm in year 12
I'm doing maths, bio, chem and physics and hope to apply for medicine. So far I'd say chemistry is my favourite subject followed by physics.

Spoiler

I guess this is really happening :colondollar:
