The Quest for A*A*AA - Y13 study blog

Hello! :wavey:

So it finally dawned on me last night at 3am that this was my final year of school and I've really got to work hard and smash out my A Levels  Therefore, I've decided to start a study blog like many others I've seen here on TSR to help motivate me to getting the grades I want.

Firstly, a bit about me! I'm in year 13 and currently studying A Level Maths, Further Maths (self-taught), Physics and Chemistry. I'm hoping to study Physics at university (hopefully specialising in the theoretical side of things) and then perhaps do a PhD and go onto further research.

My posts probably won't be too frequent but I will definitely be keeping track of modules completed and current grades, mocks, etc. Also I will be keeping track of my applications on UCAS.

Thank you! I really enjoyed your year 12 blog

I kinda slacked with FM last year so I'm hoping that this blog will motivate me to stick to deadlines too
Cool, another Physics applicant! Watching this thread  Good luck.

Honestly, you're probably going to get these grades easily judging by your previous academic record --this isn't a road, it's a molehill.
Update: 11/09/2016

So I went back to college on Thursday and already I'm absolutely knackered (even when I only had two lessons this week  ). I really need to sort out my diet and my sleeping pattern to maximise my concentration this year lol

Thoughts on Oxbridge

Spoiler

Progress:
Chemistry

I have made some flashcards for the topics covered so far in Chemistry - NMR Spectroscopy and Chromatography. Pretty straightforward stuff, though I struggled to remember things from the end of term.

We've tarted on Thermodynamics in class and I've just completed some homework on AS revision topics. I will need to make some flashcards on this ASAP because I had a lot of questions about Haber Born cycles.

Physics

I found some excellent notes on getrevising to use alongside my classes on further mechanics - my teacher often goes off the spec or misses things so these will be useful.

I have done my homework on SHM - 3 pages of questions and a graph :colonhash:

Maths

So far, I have completed C3 and I have three more topics left in the book for C4. I aim to finish these by next week so I can get started on FP2 and FP3. My online lectures start at the end of the month for FP2 and FP3 via the FMSP.

I will need to revise Centres of Mass for my M2 lesson on Wednesday as I cannot remember much about it.

Why did you choose Cambridge over Oxford?

I've sort of outlined why in my first update under the spoiler, but it's honestly just because I think I'd do better in their admissions process. Cambridge will consider my UMS more, and place less emphasis on their new entrance exam (at least that's my theory), and someone got into NatSci in my sixth form last year so I can always message him for help.

And I really cba with the PAT for Oxford

Do you normally stick to doing a certain amount of hours per day?
I ask because sometimes I feel really motivated to do lots of work and on other days I will feel lethargic and won't get much work done.

Ah I envy you rn! It's just that I don't know what to do for my conclusion or results section because the experiment didn't actually work in the end lmaooo
