You've taken what I said the wrong way.

I was meaning that as someone still young I still have hope of getting on the programme in the future given the fact I got to the AC and quite a few there were older like yourself with more experience. I think I'll have a better chance going forward as I now have experience of the tests, AC and a full year working for hmrc.

A guy in my office at my current grade was successful and he's a good few years older than me

Apologies. Had a feeling I might've. I'll get back to my Horlicks...
Just an update, I spoke to someone helpful that said there are two provisional start dates in October. So I don't think it's a case of waiting for the pre employment checks to be done, more a case of waiting for start dates no one has bothered to tell us about

Since 16th August which isn't even that long but how long do pre employment checks take when you already work for the department? Surely it should be a fairly simple process

I'm waiting for a cardiff status date, is that a formal or provisional start date? And when did you find out? Thank you!

Which role is this for?
Got call today asking me to provide ID documents and character declaration etc next week so moving along finally
Well totally unexpected email today. Someone has dropped out of tsp, so I've been offered a place to start in 2 weeks. Now I'm going to have a really awkward convo with my current employer tomorrow as I'm ment to give one months notice, really doesn't help that I go on holiday Thursday for 2 weeks! Talk about bad timing.

I understand what you mean, but think about it this way. Maybe they got the offer because they were actually more experienced/capable than you?
I am not trying to offend you here. But from what I can recall, the candidates attended my AC were mostly around early to mid20s, only one or two are older and there were about two groups of us so around 20 in total, I don't get how you have the perspective of most of them are old enough to be your dad, was your AC full of people in their 40-50s?

I regret having said anything in the first place ...

There were a couple in their 40s at mine and I agree that older people likely did get an offer before me due to their experience. I am hopeful of getting a place on the programme in the future as it wasn't all 21 year olds (meaning they are looking for experience and not just people straight out of uni like you find with some graduate schemes) and a number of those successful this time had probably applied several times before.

At no point have I meant I was more capable or deserving of a place due to my age

Sorry - my fault!

But yeah, they don't care how old you are. Just what you can do. I know of people who did the course in their 50s.

It's always fun to see a new batch of exuberant fresh-faced kids wandering around cluelessly though.

No one is getting selected for TSP because of their experience. The candidates who perform best at the assessment centre are the ones who are selected, whether they are 21 or 51.

Has anyone who received a provisional offer in July for an HO position received a start date in Manchester?

Not yet...I'm just trying to get an idea of when we can expect to hear anything. If what Jayloo's says is correct re the start dates in October, when are supposed to hand in our notices given that most employers require a month minimum?!
