Why are we still on this? I said I agree.

No you didn't
debunking this shiz
1- How did you get this information? off your two friends?
2-again how did you know this
3-isnt this logical and wouldn't you do this?
4-not everyone who is middle class looks down on social housing
5- you are crazy if the whole middle class think this
Original post by looloo2134
Reason Why
1) their amoral e.g smoking weed at university
2)They believe their children are more intelligent than working class children
3)They buy houses by the best performing schools so their children will get a place
4)They look down on people who live in social housing
5)they call working class white people racist & xenophobic. When the white work class work in low skilled jobs with Eastern Europeans. Also are more likely to have mixed race children.

Also, everyone wants what is best for their kids? I have no doubt mine will go private when I have them

Out of interest, are you assuming that everyone would send their children to private school if they could afford to?*

There are working class people who deserve the utmost respect, i.e. people who are doing their best to get out of it. Most of the dislike is directed towards people who don't seek to improve and those are generally perceived as slobs.

Wow.

Guessing you've never experienced poverty first-hand.*

Everybody has a good chance at receiving a decent level of education in this country. I went to a mediocre comprehensive and still ended up with A*s, and so did people from working class backgrounds I studied with, who did put some effort into their study to end up at top universities. And I am sure they won't have any difficulties in finding skilled jobs on graduation.

Don't patronise me, because you've seen a few mates get into 'top universities'.
There's a reason why people from middle class backgrounds exist in greater proportions in skilled jobs than working class: Because there's differential education, e.g., amongst other hurdles levelled against working class folk. You know there's no significant genetic differences between people. Most of us have a tremendous cognitive capacity. But due to social circumstances, few working class people realise them. And the only reason you see it more numerous in better economic circumstances is because of better encouragement of those faculties.

I am starting my degree with a £4k maintenance loan, so I guess this could be classed as poverty.
1. more working class than middle class people smoke weed
2. intelligence is to some extent hereditary
3. fair game
4. justified
5. most of those people are racist so also justified

Totally agree. The news that you read doesn't do reality justice. Conditions are grim; and it is one of those that you can't talk about seriously without experience.

Hereditary?! Hereditary in so much as your parents received good education, and so have you. Genetic differences are not significant enough to justify the gulf in 'intelligence', that I may remind you is essentially critical thinking, which can be learned. If you're exposed to it from a young age, of course you'll assimilate the practice.

It's middle class people who deny biological determinism (my champagne socialist relatives included) working class people don't even think about such things. What we need is an aristocratic backlash of people leading the working classes in a rebellion against middle class culture.

Now this is an act of aggression. Please go away, you've made your point; not many people are arguing against it. In fact it goes without saying that you'll do the best for your children. Now, unless you have another contribution, please go back to your silk sheets and warm palace, and leave the discussions of societal obstacles to the people that face them.

...Huh?

Against upper class, maybe.
Middle class is just a Hard-working class that comprises of doctors, lawyers, engineers etc. who actually achieved something in their lives and change this world for the better.

Working=Slobs
Middle= Hard-working
Upper= Lords.

The upper class is made up of more than just lords, also this attitude is the problem, middle class people are among the most snooty, have a completely disproportionate amount of power and are completely unelected. The worst thing about doctors, lawyers and engineers is that they think their expertise in one area give them authority on other areas over the quiet working class heroes who made this nation great.

Very presumptuous, and we don't like you either, OP. :wink:

I don't know why but I find it a little cringey when people explicitly own up to identifying as middle class. It's probably the worst of the three to identify as :redface:

Why conform yourself to a social demographic.

I don't really see myself as middle-class, after all it's my parents success not mine, but that is true, it's a silly way to pigeonhole oneself. :smile:
