good A-levels for family law

Hi, I would like to be a solicitor, probably more family based and want to go on and study law at a Uni. i was just wondering if i have taken the right Alevels. i took
Enlgish Lit
History
and sociology (for the family aspect)
I didn't do the A-level law because I was told you didn't need it to do it at A-level, is that correct and can i still get into a top uni to study law with really good grades in these subjects?

You will be okay with the eng and history but I'm not sure about sociology as it can be considered a soft subject

psychology or politics or a science. Im applying for law and I'm doing politics, history and psychology.

you will 100% not be expected to be tailoring your A Levels towards a Law specialism, just focus on what you think will be helpful for studying Law at uni rather than for your career afterwards. I think as long as you get a good grade in Sociology it won't hold you back, and modules about Crime in Sociology will give you something good to talk about on your Personal Statement

Don't listen to this member. Sociology is on the same level as politics and psychology A-Level. Your subjects are fine. Like someone else has said you could probably weave the family and crime aspect of sociology into your personal statement.

I'll be starting first year in October at Durham :smile:

I originally applied to Cambridge and of course would love to be going there, but I think now I'm glad I'm going to Durham instead- I'll have more of a chance to push myself to the top of the class, won't have the additional stress of short terms, and I'll have more time to join societies and stuff :smile:

I was going to do Law but I changed my course last minute after having done some legal work experience.

I think honestly any of the Russell Groups will do as they all have similar entry requirements. (Avoid Queen Mary/Reading/Southampton as they're the weaker Russell Groups) Obviously if you can get into Oxbridge/LSE/UCL that's great but don't beat yourself over it. From the firm I visited there were some solicitors who were from Oxford and others from universities like Leeds/Birmingham/Nottingham etc. Grades are important but you as an individual is more important, so try beefing up your CV now by taking advantage of every opportunity your school gives you that could make you stand out from the crowd.
