How important is it to make a Facebook for uni?

And do people still use it?

Facebook is so overrated. Wait till you start uni to start making friends and socialising. In my experience, the loudest ones on Facebook prior to starting university are the quietest and dryest ones in real life

But isn't it a bit embarrasing, because i don't have a FB, but if i decided to make one like a day before uni for socialising in advance/student union stuff etc, people would be like oooo who's that loner. lol am i overthinking idk.

You're over thinking it.

We have a Facebook group and chat to talk to each other etc, I think it's essential as it helped me to get to know my course people better.

It's always a ice breaker I guess. You could always say you deactivated it for exams and just made a new one

Haha, thanks for the reassurance. I'm just already a bit nervous about the whole university experience even before applying for 2017.

Thanks again!
I think it is pretty essential - for the courses, clubs and socs I've been in anyhow. It's the main means of communicating.

Having said that, no-one gives a crap if your own fb is just your name and your Y8 school photo.

If you don't want to use it, don't. But you should have it to stay in the loop. Can't just rely on university email.

Yeah but I'm worried if I won't have as many 'friends' on FB, because I don't want to add a few people on there (really judgemental weirdos), like do you think people would think "omg why doesn't she have like 600 friendssss :0"

Lol

plus im pretty shy, like im half intro/extrovert D:

You can set your friends list to private which means you can only view your friends list
You might as well make one. Pretty my be very one has one and has one for a long time. Make sure you get snapchat as well and maybe Instagram, wouldn't bother with Twitter though it's pretty dead

It's university. No-one will care.

Also, I mean take a minute to think about the whole "judging" thing. It doesn't really mean anything unless you want it to. Everyone makes value judgements all the time, every day.

no as in, like, my friends are ok. It's some of my family members lols- and it's not just because they're judgemental, it's because they're really jarring and just question you on everything, I'm a brown girl LOL the judging gets pretty real.

I'd definitely make one. It's easy and takes five minutes. Group chats will be so useful for anything from societies to house notices. TBH everybody has it nowadays so probably easier to join the bandwagon. With regards to friends who cares. Some have 50 others have 500+. People use facebook for different reasons, the days of judging people by friends has long gone
WhatsApp etc would be fine.

I guess when you finish it could be more useful. Keeping in touch.
Definitely get one, it's pretty much necessary if you want to be communicated to as important information will be posted on groups or events, and occasionally you'll have group chats on facebook instead of whatsapp.
you need it if you wanna get a 2:1

Agreed 100%. Wait until uni and then see how these people interact in person as opposed to behind a screen...
