School bits:
Hi Everyone,

I'm in year 11 so I will be sitting my GCSEs on the 18th May (eek). I also had mocks on the 22nd Feb so keeping this thread made sure I kept up with my revision. At the moment my targets and grades are:

(WJEC) English Language: A*
(WJEC) English Literature: A*
(Edexcel) Maths: A*
(OCR Gateway B) Biology: A*
(OCR Gateway B) Chemistry: A*
(OCR Gateway B) Physics: A*
(AQA) German: A*
(OCR Modern) History: A*
(AQA) Geography: A*
(OCR National) ICT: A*

Some of you may look at this and wonder how I can improve, but I set really high standards and in some of my mocks I have been getting 84/85 and scores like that, so I am working towards getting as high a mark as possible, and not just securing the grade.

Hopefully, if I can get the grades, I want to go on to college and study Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Geology.

Personal bits:
If you want a bit of background I've always been quite good academically (though I genuinely hate to admit it) but I believe it is down to the fact that I have severe Atopic Eczema (that the specialist said was the worst in 30 years) and because of this, I have found studying to be a worthy distraction. I also can't see out of one eye which makes life interesting but I like it that way. If I can work hard enough, and get into University, I will be the first person in my family to do so, and considering my parents have barely any qualifications, this is definitely something I aspire to.

A few last words:
I am open to any advice or constructive criticism and I am happy to help anyone too.

When did you roughly start revising?

Probably following my December mocks (in terms of revising for the real GCSEs) but after every school day I always did a recap of stuff I learnt right from the very start of the year

Oh ok, is it ok if I learn like a lot of the content in these few months up to next year? Or will that be too much to remember or learn?

I don't think it would be a bad thing, just ensure that you are planning it all out and giving yourself time to recap the content. So for example, if you learn about Insulin in Biology in your first week of revision, some time during the second week, make sure you go over it again. Otherwise you could find yourself forgetting everything you did at the start of the month by the time you get to the end!! It's a good idea for sure, just make sure it isn't a wasted effort

Aw thank you! Well, planning as I mentioned is rather important, more so for A-level but a good idea for GCSEs and balancing so many subjects. Make sure you study little and often, but at the time of day that suits you. So, if you're really good in a morning, work then. But if you can't function at all in a morning, but can sit there and concentrate at 6 o clock in the evening, then work then. Also, I'd recommend finding out how you enjoy learning, so if you like flashcards, make them, but if you can't stand them and would prefer mind maps, then try that instead. It may be worth using a couple of techniques per subject as the more different ways you go over something, the better remembered it becomes. You could also try studying in different locations - which I found particularly useful if I didn't understand something. So say you are struggling with a topic. Learn it once in your room at a desk, then if you don't fully understand it, go to a cafe or the library (or both) and try again there.

If you find yourself lacking motivation to study, just try doing it for 5 minutes. Most of the time, this is all you need to get you rolling, as starting is one of the trickiest parts. The Pomodoro Technique can also be useful for this too!
