lol yep theyre called formals for a reason. However I dont know what exactly we need to wear for matric. dinner- some current students said a dinner jacket/stuff that i wont have time to buy before arriving is a good investment but idk

Oh dear, need to throw out all the sweet trackies I got planned.

On a serious note, I think it depends on your college. Some have gowns (?) and other requirements, but if you look at a past years matriculation photo it should give you some idea.

If I bathe in my trackies does it count as a bathing suit? Does a birthday suit count as a suit?

Just go all out, with like a properly tailored 3 piece suit, cufflinks, ties, tie bars, pocket square, belt, umbrella (just in case), braces, socks, cummerbund and top hat! It's better to be over prepared than under prepared! :P

Are you sure about dinner jacket?
It's usually dark suits under gown is the most common attire under gown for matriculation ceremony/dinner.
Does king's wear dinner jacket for matriculation dinner to compensate for the lack of gown?? :tongue:

Got college parents yet?
If you do, ask them.
If not ask on king's freshers FB page (official one). Somebody from JCR's fresher support team should be keeping an eye on it, so I'm sure they'll tell you.

And if you really need a dinner jacket and don't have time to buy it before you go, you can wear plain black suit with a bow tie (you can get it easily from M&S or John Lewis in town centre when you arrive at cambridge) just for the occasion. Some boys do, especially in the first year.
You can buy a proper dinner jacket when you're back home for xmas.

I would say probably not. Sometimes a hard one to call but that sounds a bit too informal for me...

Ok I might just go suit without a tie or waistcoat etc.
Not white shirt tho...

Yeah suit with an open collared coloured shirt should do just fine.

Do you have a jacket/blazer?
Jacket + jeans+shirt would nicely even with trainers, I think.

Lol two conflicting opinions.
I've seen many young guys with jacket and trainees in smart restaurants in London, so hopefully it's ok.......as long as they're clean.......:tongue:
