Actually, you'd be lucky to get 3G or 4G outside of a densely populated area, as Vodafone still aren't very hot on their 3G/4G coverage! I know of a couple of places near me that have only just received Vodafone 3G, yet EE and 3 have had 3G there for years....
Yep, make sure to get a decent data allowance on a decent network next time
