Can you see a way to eliminate one of the variables? (Get rid of either x or y)

If you are confused over this much in maths you should really go and ask your teacher.

rearrange to get what y= in the 2nd equation
sub it into the first equation
4x - 2y = 2
6x + 2y = 28 Multiply second equation so coefficient of y is equal
10x = 30 Add the first equation and the equation that you have doubled to get rid of the ys
x = 3 Solve for x
9 + y = 14 Substitute back in and solve for y
y = 5
