Common misunderstanding but I'm still unsure. I'm almost certain its An but just double checking 😊

Absolutely 'a' hospital. Some people with an accent that drops the 'h' sound may make the mistake of saying "an 'osspital" because they've dropped the 'h' and the word sound changes. However, if you pronounce it with the 'h' sound:

An hospital…

Well, it doesn't sound right at all. Grammar wise? As @Ayaz789 said really. If the word "osspital" existed, "an" would be its preposition because of the 'o' vowel. But it does not. :tongue:

A and an are indefinite articles which refer to something non-specific (e.g. a dog). You use an when the thing you are referring to starts with a vowel or a has a silent h (e.g. an elephant, an hour). In this case you can hear the h at the beginning of hospital so you would use a.
