What is the difference between and English degree and English Language and Lit degree

I'm about to apply for university courses. I have noticed that some universities offer English as a degree as well as English Language and Literature. How do these courses differ? Is one condidered more academic than the other? Please help asap

English *generally* means it's an English Lit degree (sometimes with a few language options)...but it's not cut and dry.

The only thing you can do is to look at what topics/modules are covered in each degree to decide if it contains enough language options for your interests.
