graduate applications and online tests

just encountered a few online tests, would like to ask a few questions about their utility.

are online tests used to try to weed out the bottom 30% or seperate the top 30%?? is this the stage where most applicants are cut?

and how long should you take to prepare for such exams, for examples, the SHL numeric tests? a week?
Don't know for the top one, but for preparation advice it entirely depends on your natural ability and the amount of time you spend on it each day. Naturally as you take more and more real tests, the amount of time you need to prepare for each one will decrease - I would suggest taking the tests for your least preferred firms first.

Bottom 60-70%. Yes, most applicants are cut at the test stage or the CV screen (for companies without tests).

As much time as you need to feel confident doing the tests

On average, about 50% of applicants are screened out at this stage. You generally need to be scoring 75%, ideally 80% or more.

great, thanks. regarding prep, has anybody actully paid for the shl tests or can you find them online for free (real tests not a few sample questions)?

Get Graduate Monkey. SHL style are 18 questions in 25 minutes for numerical and Kenexa are 20 questions in 20 minutes for numerical.
