Any one need help from an A grade sociology student?

Hi guys I'm a gap year student I got an A in sociology(3 marks off an a*) and I'm gonna do it next year for uni.One of my gap year fulfilments is to do something inspirational.I want to help students currently doing sociology for a-levels.So I'm planning to do some sort of online forum on tsr or whatsapp;however I heard that whatsapp gc might not be the best idea since there has been exam penalties given to students involved in study gc's over the years.However I do feel like its easier to communicate via whatsapp.Thus I would have to be very strict and give clear guidelines if a study gc was to commense.Let me know if your interested.Also it will be best if you do family,education,beliefs and crime since I did them.

Hi this is a great idea! Came at the right time as I was just doing notes for Sociology. I have a few questions just about sociology revision in general if you don't mind helping out?

I was wondering if it is necessary to learn every single statistic in demography? Would you be penalised for making some of them up because the number amount of numbers to learn is impossible. Also do you suggest learning every single subtopic in the entire book? For most questions (20 mark) they just require you to mention the big theories, and so those smaller sections e.g. in Family Patterns where it talks about homosexual marriages etc just seem a bit extra to learn.What do you suggest?

And finally, do you recommend memorising the dates of studies?

It would help with remembering few stats to boost up evaluation and application marks but you don't have to use all the stats,and you won't be penalised for false stats,obviously not an exaggerated one,however it would help to incorporate a source or an author to help with evaluation marks.

I'm goona see into a new spec to fully coherent in my head since I did the old spec,but I think you would be limiting yourself.Sure you could get somewhat out from an answer by using core theories like functionalists especially postmodernism since there views on family focus on how they are diverse now e.g same sex households,then contrast to the status quo of the nuclear family(functionalists view) but I'll feel like that would be very limitied.Say you have question about ethnicity/immigration in relation to family diversity;the core theories won't really add such sophisticated depth,with the exception of postmodernism and a bit of feminism since they support single-mom and the matrifocal household.Just learn it in case,cause you don't want to be screwed when there is question about immigration and family diversity.

It is advisable since some questions might ask about contemporary things with in f+h topics such as why marriage rates have fallen from the last 50 years;however this doesn't seem to be a trend on crime or education really so memorising dates of studies would be essential for beliefs and f+h.

I'm currently studying BSc Families & community study's in my first year, and have a 4000 word essay to be submitted for 16/01/2019 aswell as my Pdp that has to be in by 12 noon tommorow. I am completely lost with all this work, first of all student finance refused to fund me unless I provided evidence as to why I never finished my last degree. I was previously a student in 2005 studying social work I completed the first year no problem, then I suffered the most horrendous D.V and failed my second year at uni aswell as my 2 baby's being placed on a cp register so as you can imagine I deferred my course and from then on my life was slowly on a downward spiral & I ended up in prison from 2011-2013 it was then I realised I had to sort my life out for my children which I have done. I wrote a letter to SLC and surprisingly just as well I was successful and now I am being funded to study again. That's the first hurdle I had to cross. Then it was my university who refused to enrol me until I sat a DBS panel appeal meeting just to even be considered on my course. I sat the panel with 4 members of staff from my university and it was horrible having to explain my whole life story too them only to be told I wouldn't get a decision until Monday so I had a vile weekend stressed out worried sick about what was coming next & after all the tension & anxiety i recieved the answer I had hoped for thank god 🙏🏽 ..... But I now have a strict agreement that I can not afford to slack anyway shape or form and have to show 100% attendance and commitment otherwise I will be off the course and now I have a 4000 word scenario based essay that I am so clueless about 🤔😣☹️ any help I would appreciate thanks a lot guys & dolls xx

Hi,

I'm doing OCR but doesn't look like there's a group out there, plus it's a new spec

The topics are,
Identity, Culture and Socialisation with Families and Households
Research Methods with Social Inequalities
Globalisation with Crime and Deviance (we are about a third through this)

Haven't had our main teacher for 2 months and unlikely to go back to normal for a while,
So what should I do to make up for the lost lessons?

Hey, I think the idea about creating a whatsapp group is easier and really helpful since I have a group for Business studies. It easy to share notes and help each other tho.
I've the same question- how to remember all sociologist names and their perspectives? I just keep messing up at this and getting the wrong theories.
Also, would appreciate some revising tips :smile:

I was so disappointed especially because I intend on going to a redbrick university and my sociology grade is really low - the school are threatening to make me pay for my sociology exams too!
