California wants to leave the United States after Donald Trump's victory.

A fringe political group in California wants to opt out of a Donald Trump presidency by leaving the union.

The Yes California Independence Campaign aims to hold a referendum in 2019 that, if passed, would make California an independent country.

Far-fetched as it may sound, the plan started gathering steam after Tuesday night's surprising presidential vote. The movement has an impressive backer in Shervin Pishevar, a well-known angel investor who offered to bankroll a campaign to secede.

"As the sixth-largest economy in the world, California is more economically powerful than France and has a population larger than Poland. Point by point, California compares and competes with countries, not just the 49 other states," Yes California wrote in a statement.

Just wait until the rich majority White states vote to leave.
Washington, Oregon and Nevada also voted for Clinton. Why not have all four of those states separate themselves then?
Yeh, because last time there was a sucession when Democrats didn't like the election of a Republican, it turned out so well for America.
It's been mooted that London could 'leave' the UK post Brexit...Just as silly.

The economy of California is enormous. They probably think they could feasibly go it alone. Not in reality, of course, but in theory.
This probably like the Texit movement. A lot of talk but no real will or numbers to actually carry it out.
Unlike us, Americans take patriotism really seriously by and large.

After Brexit, when you get all the snowflakes here going on about getting Irish passports and leaving the country - no one really cares.

In the States, however, the idea that because an election didn't go your way, you want to leave the country - or start your own country - that's anathema. This is where the real social divisions start to come in - people who claim to care so much, but would basically leave their own country just because they didn't get their own way; one has to ask exactly what they have at stake and how they view the concept of citizenship.
Didn't they have a war one time over whether states could just decide to leave the union?

and the circumstances were that a bunch of Democrats didn't like the election of a Republican, so they decided to leave and triggered a catastrophic Civil War.

You have to face the fact that you supported such am abominable campaign that people can't be arsed to be the same country as you.

Which only was one of the most important moments in US history. Oh and I am sure historians would totally agree with you, that that was the sole, decisive factor.

Won't happen in a million years, its also good for USA to have California in USA as it balances the power as the most powerful, richest, progressive state in America... making it easier for Democrats to win... don't forget this before independence referendum USA!

And what campaign was that?

It pretty much was. Lincoln didn't want slave expansion, the Democrats were the party of slavery. The southern economy needed slavery. That was it. Had the Democrats won that election, there wouldn't have been a sucession or Civil War.

How is that about the president? This is not about the GOP but about Trump.

It was Lincoln who was anti-slavery, Lincoln who they objected to. Lincoln was the driver behind the anti-slavery stance of the Republicans. Cooper Union and all that

So you write a thread subject that claims California want to leave the USA, and the first line of your post makes it clear that a fringe group, of small and insignificant size, has merely suggested it.

That isn't misleading at all, is it?
