Hi,
Who's applying to Oxford Brookes? Have you had any offers yet and when did you send off your application? Also, do they do unconditionals?
Thanks

Hi, I'm considering applying to Brookes for English- what made you guys decide to apply there? I haven't been to any open days so if you have, what are the campuses, accommodation and the student atmosphere like? Thanks!

I studied English Lit with Communication, Media and Culture at Brookes. The English course is great and really varied but you do still have the option to specialise in years 2 and 3.

The teaching will be on the Headington campus which is the central hub for the University's three campuses. If you live nearby, it's really close to the city centre for shops, restaurants, bars and clubs. Transport links are great too, and we have a free bus. 👍

Our last open day is Sat 19th Nov if you can make it - I would definitely recommend having a look around!

Hi!

Brookes does give out unconditional offers depending on what you're studying and if you already have your grades or a good portfolio of work etc.

Offers given our would be different for different circumstances.

Is it possible to get an unconditional, for example, if entry requirements are BBB and your predicted grades are BBC but you have a strong personal statement and references?

Hi,

It's difficult to say as it will be different for every course!

I was given a conditional offer of BBB and I got BBC and was still offered a place. I decided to have a year out and reapplied a year later and was offered an unconditional with the BBC that I already had!

Do you know if it possible for someone to get an unconditional with BBC predicted grades for Accounting and Finance which is BBB, but haven't done the A levels yet?

Hey, i've applied for the communication, media and culture course for Oxford brookes but I didn't see the talk on the open day because I originally wanted to look at the film course but forgot to change the choice on the open day timetable.

Are you allowed to give honest opinions on the course?

Hi!

Sounds good! I studied Communication, Media and Culture with English and really enjoyed the course! The CMC side is really varied which was great but at times was a bit"theory heavy" for me.

I took some film modules in my first and second year which were so fun and gave me a range of experience; getting to write film reviews and make a radio show for Brookes Radio.

Something I wish I did was take up some Media Technology modules to get some more practical experience. And I really wish I got involved with Brookes TV - especially as I did so much work experience in the TV industry during my last year!

In your first year you will take 8 modules - 4 of them will be chosen for you - and 4 you can chose yourself from a range of subjects including English, Film, Drama, Media Technology, Languages..... so many options!!!

Talking about it all makes me wish I were a student again! 😂 😂 😂

Good luck with everything!

Ah thanks for the reply! It's nice to hear from somebody that actually took the course  I'm also quite relieved because although I want to to theory and practical I really do lean towards theory so it sounds like the course probably does suit me. Now waiting on my offer, hopefully its good news since all my other unis have given me offers and its just Brookes left!

Hi Sophie,
In the Communication part of your course, what kind of things did you study? I want to do English Language and Communication. Also, what are the lecturers like in your experience? Thank you. "

Hi there, I'm doing an access course health related.
How are they able to evaluate my application since I only have a few exams done?
Since I need mostly distinction which I did get but still a long way to go :s-smilie:
Is anyone familiarized with the process?
Is it just based on the Personal statement plus the reference college gives?
Thank you.

Hi,

Broadly speaking we covered topics on Identity, sexuality and gender, the role of technology, societal issues etc. All my CMC lecturers were great and very knowledgeable! University lecturers are usually very happy to see you during their office hours to discuss coursework with them and give you pointers.
