Nope. It depends where you get placed. Mostly still in force though.
That's really worrying. I don't like the idea of my livelihood riding on the result of an exam twice a month. Especially as I've already got a fairly secure EO job. Don't know what to do now🤔

So are you following the exam route? How are you finding it? Have they said it's 2 strike's and you're out?
The only thing I can suggest to do is see if you can get a career break with your current employer say for a year and see if you can work it that way if all should go awry with this within 12 months. Obviously if HMRC are prepared to throw you onto the job market if you fall foul of their standards then there needs to be an understanding from their part that you need to cover yourself
Thanks memoryfish, could you confirm how much maths is involved?
I have to admit ... I'm a bit baffled why the maths qn hasn't been considered before applying for these roles. It is tax after all. It's all about numbers

It's hardly about numbers... more about legislation etc. Numbers are minimal, don't get me wrong you still need to know percentages etc but gcse standard should be ample.

They're supposed to find you another role within the department (usually that means reverting back to the previous grade you held).Obviously if your external I'm not sure how that would apply but I'm sure they wouldn't leave you high and dry without an income....

If you are already a civil servant, than they will have to find you another position. If you are external than I believe they will let you go as you are still in your probation

Yea. If you are external your employment comes to an end. That's why I made the suggestion as I suspect the person asking is external

Some of things you come out with, do you even work there?

No I'm internal I work for another government department as an EO. I asked about maths at my interview and was assured it was more about learning policies and processes which I'm fine with. I'd been told the exams had stopped which is what made me want to go ahead with it, the most recently advertised jobs made no mention of it at all.

A number of people on here had said the exams had been done away with. It's difficult to know what to believe admittedly. Perhaps best thing is to contact them and try and find out more about it

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'll ask when I get a formal offer. it's seems dependent on where you work and job role.
It's 2 strikes per module. So you only get 2 attempts per module. You need to pass all modules.
Which course is this?? I'm three months in to the 26 weeks course where you have knowledge checks online and no formal exams. The evidence you have to produce to retain your job is practical. I don't know any of the new starters who are on the exam course as that, I thought, had been replaced by the course I'm on!!
