Why are people's friends always incapable of making their own threads?

Basically I need this answered for an ex friend who is having boy problems. So we were invited to a party on Nye and the host at the party had his friends over who were all guys, so we were the only two girls. Anyway it was a fun party but it felt awkward being the only two girls so we invited our friend who brought two of her other friends that we don’t know. Let’s call her two friends acid and alkali. So before they came me and my friend agreed that there was only one guy at the party that we liked lets call him alkane - but nothing happened we all just hung out for a bit. Then arrives acid and alkali with our friend. We played some games as you do, and there was subtle flirting between my friend and the guy, and by this point remember the 3 other girls were also there. Meanwhile me and my friend moved to the living room where said guy was with his friend. Then all of a sudden alkane approaches asking my friend for her number and they start socialising. Its clear by this point that hes interested in her and they sit on the sofa. We take some selfies and I’m a obvious third wheel because of the sizzling chemistry ( pun intentional.) Long story short he put his arm round her and was quite touchy feely. Sadly we had to go home as it was nearly midnight and we wanted to go watch the fireworks but our friend along with acid and alkali stayed. So we said our goodbyes, alkane hugged my friend and we later found out that he wanted to kiss goodbye but of course my friend is too blind to notice these “hints”.

Consequently, our friend who satyed at the party informed us that alkane was a little annoyed because he thought my friend dodged his kiss (which she was unware of) They texted a bit but she felt even though he reciprocated the convo and wrote ‘x’s and told her about some of his feelings like the kiss etc. and then she found out that he was talking to acid behind the scenes on fb (like who even uses that anymore??) basically our friend told us about acid and alkanes frequent ‘communication’ and how he called the other girl beautiful and apparently want to ‘try’ with her. However when acid asks about my friend he gets quite defensive and says hes confused about his feelings cause they haven’t talked much (which is his fault because he has takes forever to reply to my friend and seems to prefer acid at this point. He apparently said to her that if my friend wasn’t at the party or saw her first then he would have only spoke to acid which is stupid cause he had seen her at the party and he could’ve talked to her but instead chose my friend, so HA!

In conclusion, my friend still kinda a lil bit ‘likes’ him and doesn’t know what to do, because it seems like something is going on between them,even though acid has told us that she doesn’t like alkane but seems to be fuelling the fire. What is your advice on this messed up situation?
