The worse the university the more 'bad people join'?

I saw a review on a uni i want to go to (it is quite poorly placed 80-100... anyways they said they let anyone in... basically a bunch of 'chavs' from the job center. Is this true? I'm guessing the top 10 unis have more arrogant people... the bottom 30 have a lot of college lads.

Am i wrong?

I didn't know how to word it... but you know the sort of dodgy colledge kids that did drugs every weekend who are still sort of in that 'dickhead' mindset even though they are 18-20.

I had an open day at Anglia Ruskin last year which is placed very low on the uni tables (below 100 I think) and everyone seemed super nice there and i didn't see a single chav :wink:

Also I know so many people who go to Southampton Solent since it's a local uni to me and they're really good people, and far from chavvy.... I really wouldn't put too much thought into uni rankings when it comes to the type of people you'll see, as a friend of mine who went to Bristol (fairly highly ranked uni) found all sorts of knob heads there and in the end dropped out... so yeah... go to an open day and find out for yourself, it's really all about YOUR experience rather than other people's. :h:

I think in general at lower ranked unis (which aren't specialised) the demographic is more comprised of people who think they have to go to uni, or people who didn't know what to do for a career and saw uni as the normal route. I wouldn't say that makes them chavvy, if anything those attitudes tend to come from quite well off backgrounds as they see more people around them with degrees and aren't scared off by the potential costs.

If you go to a uni which is fairly specialised i.e. it ranks low overall but medium to high in certain subjects then that likely won't apply.

Yeah I'm going to teeside university. Apparently their computing/design courses are good. But it is ranked 100 overall or something. To be fair more design/arty courses aren't going to attract 'chavs'. I know doing business studies at roehampton attracted a lot of those types. Probably because they don't know what to do and businesses make money so they chose business studies.

Ikr. I thought the chavs did apprenticeships or were stuck in the retail shops as full time sales assistants.

Doing drugs every weekend and being a bit of a dick describes a lot of the wealthy kids at top universities. The only difference is we call them rahs rather than chavs.

A lot of them do apprenticeships then go to uni, I know a chav that did mechanic apprenticeship and joined Nottingham university to study locomotive engineering. I also know another guy who never did a levels or any level 3 course, who came from jail and went to uni to study a business course through his contacts.

You guys are probably right. Perhaps chavs is not the word. I just mean people that are dicks... I'm sure you get them at all levels of universities. but I'm guessing those are top unis are more mature.

True. But then the dodgy people from that area chances are didn't do too well. So perhaps the not so **** people from **** schools and areas go... mixed in with some people who come from nice areas but just didn't perform. I know that teeside has a lot of computing/design/performing arts courses so that should scare off chavs.
