Medicine related novels to help my personal statement?

I'm planning on studying medicine at uni and thought I could read a book to mention in my personal statement and talk about in my interview. I'm looking for interesting stories, rather than boring medical text books..
Any suggestions? Thanks!!

I sensibly cannot imagine that this is going to help your application overmuch but it likely won't hurt if confined to a couple of sentences intended to suggest you as a candidate more rounded than usual. And the Medical Humanities is presently the coming thing, with new MAs popping up all over as English departments seek to get their mitts on the Wellcome Trust's bottomless pot of it.

For me the best book recently written on the subject of illness is
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Teach-Us-Sit-Still-Sceptics/dp/0099548887/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1483837836 and Tim Parkes here as always is as readable as he is clever (and that is 'very'.

Anything by Atul Gawande:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=atul+gawande&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aatul+gawande

For literature you could perm anything you fancied from here:

And if in London you might visit:
https://wellcomecollection.org/visit and of course then mention this in the PS.
