Why is this subforum so right-wing?

This site is odd.
Especially the the N&CA and I really should avoid it for sake of my mental health.
It is stressful posting here because I lean more towards the centre.

On this particular forum I've noticed people on the 'left' and people on the 'right' are exactly the same type of people. They use the same arguments rehashed to suit their agenda, they push false narratives and purposely miss out facts because it doesn't confirm to their ideals, they will immediately and vehemently call you names and insult your intelligence if you dare question their opinions and they're too blind to actually see this.

This is the only site where I've been simultaneously called an sjw Islamist AND a racist against Muslims because I dared air opinions that were slightly different.

The most hilarious part is that both sides will never actually acknowledge that they're both as bad as the other.

I can think of a couple of people that are actually intelligent and don't take life too seriously on this forum. Some of these people are ready to beef you for years because you disagreed with them on one thing
@Quantex @Hydeman @WBZ144, rakas and @Foo.mp3 (Depending) for example

Also you OP 🤔

Then you've got the odd troll like that Jew hating guy and chaoskass/len goodman that just make you laugh.

The struggle is real. :moon:
I got slapped around by both sides on that big thread (called 'should we ban muslims' or something) made after the Paris attacks.

Anyway, thanks for the tag! I'm something of a centrist too - you know what they say about great minds.

Why thankyou good sir. I'm always happy to debate and defend my opinions. I've been declared as a liberal, a populist, an ultra libertarian, a social conservative and as Ghenkis Kahn before.

I would also add Nulli and Observatory.

I got two cards from that thread for suggesting something that on Jan 20th could become US government policy.

....

With regards to the quiet left and vocal right i'd suggest that although somewhat true (we are winning around the western world) that the pendulum will probably swing back left. When i first came here the talent was mainly on the left in debates and the right wingers banged on about cultural marxism whereas close to the election and Brexit the pendulum swing towards talent on the right (albeit mostly lat least mildly libertarian in flavour). It seems today that we are in one of those rare times when the forum is fairly balanced and few outstanding members either brilliantly debating or being outstanding for the wrong reasons.
We are intelligent enough to reject the leftist brainwashing to which we were subject at high school and have reset the clock to zero before ushering in a new era of rightist thought, our dawn, a golden dawn.

It felt (and still feels at times) that being pro-Brexit meant that I had to adopt a defensive position. Certainly the prevailing view among the younger age group, which I'm not totally sure I can class myself as anymore, was that if you were pro-Brexit you were automatically classed, uneducated, simple, racist, bigoted, xenophobic etc.

Personally I'm pretty indifferent to the whole leaving or remaining in the EU thing. It;s all the politics surrounding it that worries me. There are legit left wing reasons to think the EU is a bit **** but then I don't want right wing populist nationalism to get a real foot hold in Europe. The fact the Front National in France has a chance of winning stresses me out.

Centrists are always on the wrong side of history

People are literally dying in the streets out there in the Tory wilderness.

On a side note, if you constantly feel on the defensive that may be an issue with your outlook on political debate rather than the people you're debating with. Nobody's out to be mean to you personally.

People are literally dieing yes as a consequence of this government imo. Taking this into account people who support this government should atleast be able to understand why left wingers get angry even if they are wrong.

What I mean about defensive is that the left is basically deing as a strong political and economic force and to hold any real left position is to place oneself on the fringe which means you have to be able to argue against so much that so many consider common sense which then makes you start to doubt yourself.

I don't know what the exact demographics are if we had a poll I'm sure it would throw up a surprise one way or the other. However the left wing tends to have this Stalinist mentality where anyone that disagrees with them is evil.

The Stalinist thing is to keep out (or liquidate ) opponents that threaten your power. Just calling people evil is not Stalinism. It;s free speech.

Had I been around then, I would've been a Radical Republican. :hand:
I tend towards the centre, but I'm not a centrist by creed, is probably how I should have put it.

I know, I was just messing, I think this is more appropriate for the both of us

The right wing are a very touchy and hypocritical group. They're loud mouth is actually a defence mechanism because they've realised that their ideologies are drowning into irrelevance.

Isn't like basically what most people are? It's incredibly common. Pro capitalism and people can marry whoever they want.

that's what it's poking fun at, people think they're special for not totally aligning with one side of the spectrum when really it's very common

The DM is leftist, the fact that anyone considers those half-assed amateurs right shows just how far left we've gone.

I wouldn't even call it conservatism/liberalism per se - I just like policies that make sense. So, even though I might be described as a fiscal conservative (loathe as I am to being called any kind of conservative), I think the people who go by that name in, say, America are quite mistaken. They believe the way to deal with a 2007/08-style recession is to cut spending to the bone because they don't think there's any great difference between government and household spending.

What...... I am quite sure that DM is rightist. They support the Conservatives and they make loads of immigrant and muslim scare stories. Sure they may have made one or two critisisms about right wing canditates and political groups but they are predominantly right.

Remember the Red Ed articles?

The Conservative party is so left-wing it's unreal.
because libertarianism, nationalism and alt right"ism" are all reasonable positions to adhere to, surely? dictation is bad, globalism (not "globalisation") is practically the same thing as authoritarianism, and SJW-ism is honestly the equivalent of being the "edgy" reverse-KKK for hipsters.
