Uni and white people

I don't want to sound rude or anything but I'm Asian and I go to a uni where its 99% white. I'm the only Asian in my class, along with my friend. The people in my class are so boring, have dead banter, and just generally there's still that awkwardness there between the whole class even tho it's been 5 months into the course. It's not that I'm unfriendly, but outside the classroom I don't really feel like chilling with them, or even getting to know one of them on a level. If my friend wasn't with me, I probably would have dropped out.

I don't know why, but I find it harder clicking with white people, their banter is dead and they're conversations are boring. I really hate going into lessons but like the course itself. Shall i transfer to A diff uni where there r more people I can click with More easily and socialise with. I hate going in because I don't like my class, the way they are, and their awkwardness

This sounds more like a rant about how you can't get on with them rather than an issue about white people. Do you even give them a chance or are you jumping to conclusions because they're not the same colour as you?

If you believe the reason you don't along with a group of people is because they're white, then perhaps you need to get a sense of perspective and start using a some rationale to counter the sheer idiocy of assuming a people as a monolithic group on the basis of their skin pigmentation. After all, you're clever enough to go to university!

If you are concerned about potential-banter, then maybe you should apply to go to universities which rate positively for nightlife like Newcastle or Manchester, as oppose to universities which would rank lower like Durham or Warwick. Nonetheless - when you accept a conditional offer for study - more often to not, the university will make you do a questionnaire designed to pair you with similar people for your accommodation in your first year. Therefore, it's unlikely you will be alongside "boring" people.

It's not that they're not white. I've met chill white people before that I get along with and like. They're just all so boring though. All the people in my class are local, no one has come from far. And I don't drink so I don't mean I want to go out clubbing with them.

I do get on with them, everybody's really friendly and polite to each other but it's still awkward. I'm not saying it's Ann issue with white people, I'm just saying when I speak to black and Asians, they're easier to talk to. I don't know maybe because I feel I can relate to them more and have similar interests.
Sounds like an issue of choice in uni and course more than anything. I've been on courses in which the whole class messed around and had superb banter (guess what race most of them were? Yep - white!) and I had great fun, though it was really hard to stay focused with all that going on. Take it as an opportunity to be free from distractions and crack on with your work.

"They're just all so boring though"? Who? 'White people' or the people in your class? If it's the former, then you are a victim of gross, prejudicial generalisation. If it's the latter, then appreciate that not everyone is going to be your cup of tea. As I said, university - regardless of where you go - is big enough and diverse enough for you to find a clique with whom to befriend.

So, friendly but boring and awkward to be around. To me it sounds like you're simply not close to them and don't know them very well. You're not gonna get close to everyone, just find other people to hang out with. You don't have to stick to people on your course after all.

As for the awkwardness between the whole class, it's because people don't automatically become friends with everyone on their course. So apart from a few friends, people will usually find most other people on their course to be pretty much strangers to them.

I wouldn't mind hanging around with them if I didn't find them boring and dull. Why don't u make an effort to talk to some? Everyone in my class pretty much keeps to themselves. UE Bristol nursing what about u

Are you that type who doesn't do anything throughout his study year and blames it on others being boring?
Ngl, but you Asians practically worship white people. So I'm pretty surprised.

Boo-hoo. If you don't like white people (which would constitute as being racist) then do not go to university in a white country. Simple as that.

I wasn't particularly close or talkative with any of my course mates unless we met doing something else. Lectures and seminars aren't exactly the best time to socialize. If you want to make more friends try joining a club/society/team. They have events where the whole point is basically to socialize so you should have more luck with people of all races.

Forreal???
Substitute white for black and this would be construed as racist

How can you know if you click with these people without getting to know any of them at all? You can't just change your life plans because the people around you have a different sense of humour than you. Eventually, you'll get a degree and start a job. You might not be friends with those people either, just get on with it if you like your course and uni.
