Thoughts on this new ED SHEERAN song?

I am not an Ed Sheeran fan but I actually like Shape Of You. My favourite part is:

Girl, you know I want your love
Your love was handmade for somebody like me
Come on now, follow my lead
I may be crazy, don't mind me
Say, boy, let's not talk too much
Grab on my waist and put that body on me
Come on now, follow my lead
Come, come on now, follow my lead

I especially like the instrumental when he sings this part the second time. I also feel as if it is a more tasteful/subtle way of singing about inviting someone over for some snu snu than in most songs nowadays.

In addition, 'I am in love with the shape of you' is a very clever line. It can help make everyone feel better about themselves regardless of their shape.

Not really a fan of his music, but I totally rate him as a singer, as a writer and as an artist in general.

He is an amazing individual and very talented, yes. :cookie:

I love Ed Sheeran, he is one of the most impressive lyricists in music today, he's different and he needs no auto-tune in order to sound perfect. "Thinking Out Loud" was the most used love ballad at weddings and simply amazing as most of his songs are. :innocent:

After a yearlong hiatus, he released two songs and one of them is "Shape of you", which was initially intended for Rihanna, but he decided to keep it for himself. It is popular as I was expecting, really catchy and I love the beat, but the lyrics are not that deep and quite commercial, comparing it to his previous songs. Still addicted to it. :flute:

What do you think?

That was the first time I had heard Ed Sheeran. Never really liked him but I did like his cover of Laid Blak - my eyes are red.

HE'S HILARIOUS.

I appreciate him even more. Such a sweet man with a sweet voiceeeee and a sense of humor.

And the way he's playing the guitar is to die for.
I'm not the biggest fan of his, but both of his new songs I absolutely love, I think Shape of You just edges it though :h:

I love that part, too. I just put it on repeat over and over again.

It is sending a good message as most of his songs do. :u:

I remember when this wasn't a special thing :moon:

Not sure if I'm supposed to know or care who this is though.

Castle on the Hill is good. Shape of you less so.

I'm interested to hear ÷ although I don't tend to expect great things from Ed Sheeran albums in general. There's normally a good single or two and the rest of it is just an okay-ish mess of samey tracks.

Same! :awesome: I wonder if there is a cut version just with that part so I can listen to it over and over again without having to replay the entire song or do it manually XD

Because I grew up in a time and a place where being able to sing was... well, expected of all singers - and you basically said this guy is one of very few to not rely on autotune? Ha! All that means is that he's the closest the gurrent generation has come to producing a singer.

You want a singer who can sing and write lyrics? Tell ya what - here's an example of someone who can sing, write lyrics, play multiple instruments, and put on a damn' good show. You don't have to watch it, but I'll just leave it here.

Spoiler

Lyrically I like Castle on the hill much more.
Musically and pure-catchiness: Shape of you.

I think I like Castle on the hill slightly more.

Well, times are different, indeed. Some of the singers today compensate with other things and aren't really recognized because of their voice, which is strange.

But there are still shows like this one, we have a band in my country which puts on a show just like that and also has members who play multiple instruments.
