@Murray Edwards Admissions what's d-day like from your POV?

As an AT, usually pretty quiet actually. The Admissions Office usually get quite a lot of calls and emails but they mainly don't get through to my desk unless there's a major problem.

They say the same in Holland (and other parts of Northern Europe) afaik - so it's an afrikaans thing.

My Rhodesian and Namibian relatives use it, too

Thought nottingham was a Russell group uni 😂😂😂 nevermind lol

Neither did I! Curiousity got the better of me when people kept asking if Plymouth was my 4th choice medical school... I kept thinking what are you going on about? Their medical school is bomb.

(And people assumed Imperial was my insurance. The uni's vibe is so whack. I've never been so uninmpressed. Even if you search on YouTube, excluding graduation ceremonies, NOTHING interesting comes up.)

I think Nottingham is. Russell group.

Has everyone here only applied Russel group universities?

Plymouth is potentially my insurance (depending on how tomorrow goes) and I didn't realise how low they were on the league table. Oh well, their medical school is BOMB. #silverlining

I've only applied to Russell group unis.

Does it matter where you get a medicine degree from in terms of employment? So long as you'll be happy there does it matter?

Really? All of them?
I really want you to get in and my tingling senses (whatever that is) are feeling positive  history of art here you come

Hahah yeah! While I'm super happy for them it's kind of like... pressure

Thank you soo much! That's super kind of you honestly I hope that you get an offer because you totally deserve one :h:

Also received this email. Certainly a degree of insensitivity present there.

Trust me, 5 hours sleep in2 nights is no fun! I'm so convinced I won't sleep tonight that I've printed off 9 hours worth of exam papers from the Internet to add to the 3 hours of homework I need. To do tonight. So I have something to do. Besides stay awake and worry.

I'd actually just want to go to bed so that the wait is over..

Interesting, but I thought it was "hold" thumbs rather than "cross" thumbs in Dutch?

Like in Sweden: http://www.nordstjernan.com/news/traditions/5824/

It's neither - it's "ik duim voor jou/jullie" en als Vlaamse mama zal ik duimen voor jullie allemaal, de Britten, de Nederlanders en alle andere nationaliteiten en vooral voor mijn eigen half Britse zoon

I think you all need to go for a pizza & a beer, go & watch a good film, leave this thread and take a deep breath. Best of luck tomorrow & whatever will be wil be - all happens for a reason x

The thread's feeling a bit heavy and negative this afternoon.
Is there literally anyone who thinks they won't get rejected?

I thought I did fairly well in the AA and the interviews but I don't want to set myself up for a fall!

I'm meant to be preparing for a mock which is tomorrow but all I can think about is decision day and it's not helping my productivity

Omg I feel you, I have one on Friday and I don't think I'll be doing any revision lol

I've applied to SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies) which isn't in the Russell Group because it's specialist for my subject (Japanese), but then again it's in London which is a little off putting...

In other news I've just spent a while looking at Sheffield in detail and it looks pretty good to me so I think I know what my second favourite is now

Actually we use the phrase "I'll thumb for you", referring to the motion of spinning your thumbs around

We're sending emails to everyone tomorrow (including those taken from the Pool) and the letters will go out to everyone today and tomorrow.

There won't be phone calls this year but I'll be on here to answer any questions people have.

Thank you very much !

A boy in my year got into Oxford PPE today with 2As and 2Bs at AS level... Although I'm happy for him, I can't help but be sour that I beat him at AS and will probably get a rejection tomorrow!
Don't worry too much about your grades I guess

Hope +1

I'm glad it's given you some hope! If I had to be truthful, I'm a bit peeved haha! If he had applied to Cambridge I don't think he would have even got an interview, but because his GCSEs are good he got an offer... Seems like a silly system to me, but that's my opinion and I'm sure Oxford have their reasons.
V grateful that Murray Edwards is taking the time to answer our questions!
