Opinion on Essex Uni (Colchester)?

Hey!
I got an offer from Essex university (Colchester), to start in 2017 studying Psychology. I was wondering if anyone else is too?
Also, as I'm still deciding which offer to accept, could anyone that goes to this university give me an insight on what it's like? Possibly the accommodation, resources, any activities to participate in and anyone who studies psychology there already!

Hi there!

I'm a current student at Essex and whilst I don't study psychology, I can give you a bit of a insight on life at Essex! I do know quite a lot of people who do psychology, it's a very popular course at Essex. You can also take part in studies and experiments if you want. Being a psychology student, you can do these for either course credits or for money. It's usually about £3-£5 but I did get given £15 for one once!

With accommodation, there's so much choice. If you want to live somewhere that has quite a sociable atmosphere then the Towers flats would be great. You would live in an apartment with 12-16 people and share a bathroom. Sometimes that can put people off but I lived in Towers in my first year and loved every second. They're also the cheapest accommodation. If you'd prefer somewhere smaller with your own bathroom then there's South Courts, the Houses, Quays and Meadows. There's usually around 6 people in these flats but they are a bit more expensive. I know people who have lived in each accommodation and they've really enjoyed it so it's mostly down to what you'd want.

We also have loads of societies and sports teams that you can join too. You'll almost definitely find something you're interested in and we have a Psychology society too. The social atmosphere on campus is excellent as well. Essex is small enough that you'll bump into people you know pretty much everyday on campus but it's also big enough not to feel claustrophobic. Our SU has loads of events, we have quizzes and karaoke in the SU bar as well as nights out in our on campus club.

Hey! Thanks so much for replying, this helped so much. Since psychology is a popular course, I guess the class will be quite big then
I've read a lot about shared bathrooms and the negatives outweigh the positives a bit. Also, living with so many people, wouldn't it be a bit crowded? I'll definitely look into all the accommodation options though!
I think I'd definitely be interested in societies and sports, I feel I need to come or of my comfort zone and socialise more and this would be a great way.
