College: Keble College

Outcome: Conditional Offer IB 39 points with a 7 6 6 in Higher Level subjects

How did you find out? (Email/Letter/Owl): Email

How do you feel?: Very surprised and happy with the offer. Did not think my interview was that great.

Does anyone know if there is a chat group for e&m offer holders or those from Keble college?
I also got into St Peters. I applied to Balliol but had 2 interviews at St Peters.

Congratulations on receiving an offer! We hope you don't feel too disappointed but would point out that everyone with an offer faces the same wait time until entry and that whichever college open offer holders are assigned to, they do seem to settle in as well as everyone else and enjoy their student experience.

We are happy to share what we put in our own Open Offer letters which is as follows:

Each year a small proportion of candidates across the University fail to meet the conditions of their offer or withdraw for other reasons. The vacancies arising are filled by candidates holding Open Offers. Different subjects operate different schemes but each shares the common feature that a student with an Open Offer has a guaranteed place. He or she may be accepted into the college sending the offer letter or they may be accepted by another college. It is not yet possible to say at which College your place will be; it may be at any which offer your course. Exactly which will depend on which has a vacancy after publication of UK Examination results in August. I can confirm, however, that Brasenose College guarantees to admit you in the event that no other College has a vacancy.

It is important to emphasise that the decision by a college to underwrite an Open Offer represents a positive commitment to you. Open Offer holders are not regarded any less favourably than other offer holders. Open Offers exist simply to minimise the chance that places available at Oxford are left unfilled.

It is sometimes possible to notify an Open Offer holder of his or her college in advance of August but more usually students have to wait until A-level results are announced (even if they are taking different qualifications, where results are announced before A-levels), which this year is [date].

... If you accept your offer through UCAS, the College offering a place will also send a pack of information that includes details of available accommodation and the associated tenancy agreement. You will not be disadvantaged in any way in securing accommodation as an Open Offer Holder because all incoming undergraduates are contacted at the same time to confirm accommodation after A-level results are published in August.

Thank you so much. That has clarified it perfectly!

I'm sure I will be happy where ever I end up. My main source of confusion was being given an open offer underwritten by my college and I was not sure whether they had (kind-of) rejected me.

Great! What were your conditions?

While congratulating everyone who got offers from Oxford for Medicine, I would like to know what went wrong in my case...
1. I have 13 A*s and 1 A in my GCSE
2. I have 5 A*s predicted from my School (Grammar School)
3. I have done BMAT well, having scored 6.2 out of 8
4. I have done the interviews also well.

Still rejected! I can't believe what else is required by Oxford.
I had done care home visits for more than 6 months; shadows with doctors (one with a Dentistry, one with ENT specialist in a hospital).. However, there was no place in the application process to submit any certificate from the Care Home or the Work Experience, even though I mentioned these in my Personal Statement.. Could that be a reason for rejection..

I am OK in not getting admission to Oxford, but the word 'not offered or rejected' weighs heavily on me.

I started an open Offer thread for those of us in this position. Pop in and say hello. I think we are all very grateful to Brasenose Admin for the clarity they provide on here. It would be good if more colleges joined them in embracing the 21st century!

How do you feel?: obviously I'm happy I got an offer, but I'm not going to accept it because Oxford was never my first choice - I only applied as a back up. In a way I'm upset because now everyone is assuming I'll go to Oxford. I've even been told how selfish it is that I don't want to go and that I didn't really deserve it.

Hi, Congrats.

So did you apply after A levels? which means you are in a gap year after A2 results.
I am wondering whether to take a gap year, that is why I ask, sorry mate.

Would not that be a loss of one year in studies

1. Does anyone know the Appeal process on getting rejected an offer from Oxford?

2. Any history of successful appeals in the past please??

I'm not sure there is an appeals process. You can ask for feedback but it could be very vague.

It's possible you didn't interview as well as you thought.

At the end of the day, medicine is such a competitive subject *everywhere* that not getting into Oxford doesn't matter or reflect badly on you. You just need that one offer from one uni. Chin up! :console:

Appeals? Are you talking about generally asking for feedback or somethig? Why would you want to make an appeal?

My application was rejected.
I think I have very good credentials, with academic, BMAT performance scores. Done interviews also well.

Hence wondering if I could request for reviewing the decision.

Is there no such review/appeal process?

The decision ' your application is rejected' kills me, my friend...
Not because of any ego or anything.. I worked hard for it.
