I quite clearly know what socialists are. And as my profile says I am a right-wing conservative. If I was embarrassing myself I wouldn't have gained a rep or two would I?
Would you give credence to mutual back slapping Momentum members?
Original post by LisaNikita
Dismiss it because it isn't what you wanted to hear. How does being unpopular make him any less capable of doing the job the socialists have piled up and neglected for DECADES.

Who exactly are these Socialists you're referring to?

he's a piece of ****, literally he's a terrible person and he thinks everyone else is as nasty, selfish and shallow as he is).

No doubt. But being a terrible person isn't unique to this President, and it doesn't particularly matter to your ability to do the job.

45. Volatile, Hypersensitive, Spiteful (Trump)
44. Vapid, Narcissistic, Contemptuous (Obama)
43. ???
42. Rapist, War Criminal, Casual Executor of the Disabled (Clinton)

And so on and so on. JFK had ties to organised crime, LBJ was an ardent racist and Nixon was paranoid in the extreme. Being a bad person doesn't mean anything about your performance as President.

Trump has none of that popular support, he has no political capital whatsoever. And now he's said he's never going to release his tax returns. His Minister of Propaganda, Kellyanne Goebbels.. I mean Conway.. has said that the desire to see his tax return is some hard left conspiracy, that it's completely marginal and no-one cares. In fact, 74% of Americans want to see it including 49% of his own supporters!

The American people are now going to see an alt-right government. There will be no "frog in the slowly boiling water", Trump has decided to be completely authoritarian from day 1, and he's going to find out how constrained the American president is in reality.

I have no doubts he'll be authoritarian, but I suspect the alt-right will be sidelined and only used insofar as Trump has a use for them. Trump isn't a true believer and never has been - it's just his path to power and attention. As has been pointed out (apologies, it's a subscription site, but I do actually know the author, so I feel obliged to credit his idea) Trump's rise in many ways parallels that of Milosevic. The nationalist populism is all just a tool to win power, to be disposed of as soon as it becomes unhelpful.

Trump's more extreme proposals will be quietly retired (we're already seeing that with some, like the wall) or switched for something essentially different, but which Trump's PR team will maintain is just some minor changes. The only exceptions will be those where he moves too fast early on and paints himself too far into a corner (his policy on Israel is looking a bit this way, as Friedman will likely be confirmed as ambassador). A substantial chunk of his supporters won't care, of course. As with nationalism in general, people aren't attracted to Trump by any particular policy, but by the more generalised "feel" or worldview he's implying. And some are much more interested in feeling edgy and thinking that Trump is "triggering" people by saying things than they are about the things he's saying actually being enacted - it's just the idea they like.

Thus far, he and his team's strategy seems to be solely to attack the media. But that only plays well with his brainless supporters. That's playing to the crowd, he's basically still in campaign mode (he'll probably always be in campaign mode.. he doesn't know how to rise above it because he's a piece of ****, literally he's a terrible person and he thinks everyone else is as nasty, selfish and shallow as he is).

Yup. As another poster (think it was nulli tertius, but not 100% sure) pointed out on a past thread, Trump hasn't yet made the intellectual jump from being a candidate to being President (because it's his only schtick). When you're a candidate and have no power, the choice of when you give media appearances and press conferences, and who you give them to, is a tactical choice and nothing more than that. When you're president and have very real power, you are are expected to show a certain level of transparency and accountability. Trump and his core supporters still act like he's a candidate, and are most likely never going to process that Trump now is "The Man", to put it simply.

Trump is extremely unpopular. For example, here is the last four presidents approval ratings at the end of the transition;

Obama, 2009 84%
Clinton, 1992 67%
Bush, 2001 61%
Trump, now 40%

Almost all president have had some kind of honeymoon, and to some degree Americans are willing to give new presidents the benefit of the doubt even if they didn't vote for him. Once the election is over, the middle ground and moderates of the opposite party usually say, "Okay, the decision is now made and we want to see the new president succeed".

In short, the victimhood strategy of "Wahhh, the left and the media are being unfwair to us" isn't going to work. Trump and the right will be discredited for years.

obama leaving office last week; 65% approval
Trump taking office; 45% approval
If you consider the different way the two candidates were covered in the media,
Trumps numbers are a bit impressive. Check the numbers in 30 days and again in 90 days and be amazed.

What exactly do you mean thar Trump has no popular support? The left hates him, the media despises him and his own party still doesn't know what to make of him and he still got elected. Is that what you meant by no popular support?
The rest of your post makes no sense.

Stop trying to stir something. Black people love Trump more than the media would like to show. And much more Latino's love Trump too. Not to mention the women who got out and VOTED.

Yea girl, now go make me a sammich.

Ok fine, we get that you don't like Trump but saying that he's a "piece of ****" makes you seem a bit agitated, doesn't it?
Either way, he's in power now, let's give him our support and hope for the best.

But he is a piece of ****...his business model is to create business in order to rip people off, take the money out, let it go bankrupt for tax purposes. He is a narcissistic sociopath. He got voted for because a) a lot of people are just like that and b) he said a plethora of things, each specifically targeted at a certain group of people and if these things clash then they are talked down like say his misogyny or making fun of a disabled person.

As far as campaigning goes, his populism is as good at Goebbels' was, but that doesn't change the fact he is a piece of ****.

Much like Trump, people share your opinions and want to hear the bs you write, regardless of whether it is true, logical, or sensible. It is all about opinion.

That is because not 100% of Americans voted in the election.

In those approval rating polls there will be people taking part who did not vote.

They're probably the same '''''polls''''' which put Hillary Clinton 12 points ahead

The highlighted part is fake news and a media conspiracy. We prefer alternative facts which state that nobody except for communists and feminazis want to see his tax returns, just 0.00000000001% of the US population.

Is that why 8% of those who actually voted cast their votes for him? Or do your alternative facts state that it was far more than 8%, and that the reported percentage is fake news?

I actually don't know that much about Dubya. He used to be an alcoholic, but that's about it.

I think you've carefully cherrypicked the wrong stats to support your assertion.

George HW Bush and Ronald Reagan tied on 51% approval at this stage of their presidency compared to Trump who's on 45% +/- 3%
http://fortune.com/2017/01/24/donald-trump-approval-ratings/

so that's not really anything to shout about.

however the disapproval rate otoh is something new
45% disapprove of Trump compared to 6% for Bush snr and 16% for Reagan
