Private vs NHS

Which do you think is better and why?

NHS cuz its free init

I went to a private hospital recently (but they also admit NHS patients for certain things) tho and I have to say it was so much nicer inside than your standard hospital mm

I've been to Harley before. Yeah it does look nicer & sofas.
Private in terms of speed and resources.
If you can afford it, then obviously private...
Private is better, anyone who says the NHS is the envy of the world or that it's just as good has never been to a Bupa clinic.

Depends on what you mean by private. There are two types, one is where the patient pays either to a private health insurance company or from their own funds, but the other type is when treatment is still free at point of access e.g the government sells elective surgery to private firms as its more cost effective and unloads the nhs waiting list. As soon as you mention privatisation the public start thinking about the U.S system and don't want to listen to any of it as they fear it will mean that they may not be able to pay for essential treatment.
But currently, the NHS must change.

I know the experience(waiting time) is better but are the doctors more experienced? No offence to NHS doctors .

People will say that the same doctors who work in NHS clinics work in private clinics on the side, well maybe that's true, but I'm sure the better half of NHS doctors are the ones who are recruited to work privately. Also there's a lot to be said for not having a hectic schedule, people make more mistakes when they're stressed, even otherwise competent folk. What are you worried about anyway?

As in the American's way of doing things? Dear god don't touch that healthcare system with a barge pole, its completely and utterly atrocious.

You can have healthcare systems that use upfront charges but dear god Americas system is atrociously bad. Singapore has a pay to use system which is extremely cost effective and ranked one of the highest in the world, but it is very carefully controlled, has also sorts of subsidies and tax funding, as well as ways of making sure the price doesn't impoverish people. America pretty much has none of that.

Yeah, i've heard some do.

Stomach issues(pain) when I eat anything . So I try to clean eat.

It can be nice to have insurance on top of nhs or be able to get a second opinion from an expert, but nhs provides all your needs (minus some cosmetics) for free so imo it's fab.
Also nhs is better for any emergency. A private hospital will just call an ambulance in a proper emergency. Also, 111, ambulance, walk-ins, A&E- nhs does have a lot to offer even if it isn't always as high standard as private.

So... for individual things private is better (if you can afford it) cos you can see an expert/ specialist and you can get seen quicker in almost all cases. You're also more likely to get more in depth examinations etc. Oh and the mental health stuff is soo much better- specialised therapies and residential without needing to be being suicidal or at serious risk. Plus free waiting room hot chocolate is never a bad thing.

For general stuff or if I had to choose just one nhs all the way. You get free medical treatment no questions asked (and in some cases you can even be sent to a private hospital). Also now that there's the online system you can have your records brought up anywhere which is pretty helpful if you're half way across the country, like for prescriptions you forgot to take on holiday... not that I would ever do something so thoughtless. Nhs is also better for really urgent things cos if you're bad enough you will be seen whenever it is.

For me private has always been better for getting to the bottom of things and it's what i've used for surgeries- never say no to a private room- and mh treatments, but nhs has given me my free prescriptions, dealt with my infections and minor ailments and been there for all my emergencies.

I guess private is better for specific things if you can have it- investigating or treating a thing-, but nhs is better for basically anything else- telling you who to see, sorting out the basic stuff like infections, the regular check ups and the emergency treatment etc.

Through all it's flaws I think the nhs is a brilliant thing to have and I certainly wouldn't like a system where you need to prove you can pay before you're given essential care.

It doesn't end at the sofas though. Free hot chocolate most places i've gone, private rooms for in-patient with bloody cranberry and Brie toasties, crazy selection of ice cream, pancakes and smoothies for breakfast and better medication. You get what you pay for. Private is awesome if you can. Way better than a vending machine and a confused old lady insisting that your little curtained area is her bathroom. Not to mention private can afford to have enough staff so the poor nurses and doctors aren't overworked and can actually get around to you in less than an hour.
