Yes and sometimes - proteins are polypeptides and they're usually not random.

sorry so polypeptides have repeat units but they can be very long if lots of different amino acid monomers join up?

Yes.

But in naturally occurring proteins, you don't normally get repetition, as in A-B-C-D-E-A-B-C-D-E-A-B-C-D-E, rather you would get A-B-E-D-E-A-B-C-C-C-E-D-A-B.

Not in the sense of having repeating molecules matching to a macromolecule, as in synthetic materials.

But if you mean the same amino acids which are bound to each other in a polypeptide chain, yes this can be considered as repeat units indeed.
