????????????????? what the **** ??????????????????

Mother implies female, and only biological females can possess a womb so I'm really not seeing any issue here sigh. Why do they need to say 'people' sigh.

I mean this is the DM so takin with a pinch of salt but if true, then sigh.

People's Day should be good this year.

This is the type of thing I have a problem with regarding the trans issue, if people wish to go that route fair enough but when science and language is being thrown out the window to be 'inclusive' then that is a problem.
Sounds like ******** to me. It might be true, but I'm guessing this has about as much substance as the "War on Christmas" that hysterical Christians are constantly claiming is occurring
Ridiculous.
Political Correctness gone mad.... Just like the rest of the world
Essentially: Let's tell doctors to stop calling all pregnant females exactly what they are (mothers) because it could potentially offend <0.1% of said pregnant females.

Makes perfect sense.
It's not a ban. It's a guideline (i.e. exactly what it says on the tin: guidance, not an absolute edict), issued by a non-governmental body which has no power to make "bans" anyway.

Hence...

"This is a guide for BMA staff and representatives aimed at promoting an inclusive workplace at the BMA. It is not workplace guidance for doctors, which is clear from the fact it does not refer to patients."

So why don't we all calm down, take a few deep breaths, and actually do some reading instead of just going into meltdown like babies?

^^^ Exactly what I thought. I would kinda understand it if it were around the subject of miscarriage or stillbirth or high risk pregnancy to spare the mother grief but yikes...
How astonishing... A mother is a relation to her child!!!!!!!!!! What is the child supposed to call their birth parent. "Hey person can I go cinema today"..

"Hello fellow human. How are you and life-giver on this lovely day?"

I couldn't pin down a URL for the document but if you Google "a guide to effective communication: inclusive language in the workplace" you will get a PDF on the BMA website. You will then be able to read what the DM and The Sun are talking about

This is just getting ridiculous now. If you don't want to be referred to as an expectant mother then tell your midwife so they can put it on your file.
Welcome to 2017
The thing with the Daily Mail is it knows its readership love a bit of aneurysm-inducing moral outrage over breakfast. So it distorts the truth to give them what they want. A sound business model that exploits the fact most of their readers lack the intelligence to question the veracity of the headlines.

There is no ban. Merely vague guidance:

A large majority of people that have been pregnant or have given birth identify as women. We can include intersex men and transmen who may get pregnant by saying ‘pregnant people’ instead of ‘expectant mothers.

Seems to me to be the Daily Mail yet again cooking up outrage and prejudice over something perfectly reasonable.

I found the PDF @viffer mentioned, reason the introduction it seems to be aimed at BMA staff, as opposed to doctors, though I may be wrong.
