Essentially: Let's tell doctors to stop calling all pregnant females exactly what they are (mothers) because it could potentially offend <0.1% of said pregnant females.

It's not a ban. It's a guideline (i.e. exactly what it says on the tin: guidance, not an absolute edict), issued by a non-governmental body which has no power to make "bans" anyway.
Hence...

This is just getting ridiculous now. If you don't want to be referred to as an expectant mother then tell your midwife so they can put it on your file.

The thing with the Daily Mail is it knows its readership love a bit of aneurysm-inducing moral outrage over breakfast. So it distorts the truth to give them what they want. A sound business model that exploits the fact most of their readers lack the intelligence to question the veracity of the headlines.

A large majority of people that have been pregnant or have given birth identify as women. We can include intersex men and transmen who may get pregnant by saying ‘pregnant people’ instead of ‘expectant mothers.

Seems to me to be the Daily Mail yet again cooking up outrage and prejudice over something perfectly reasonable.
I found the PDF @viffer mentioned, reason the introduction it seems to be aimed at BMA staff, as opposed to doctors, though I may be wrong.
