Should we still have a holiday that celebrates Christopher Columbus

I'm American and believe we shouldn't have a holiday that celebrates Christopher Columbus discovering America.
Who raped, stole, soled and much gruesome stuff to the Native Americans who America was originally their home but was stolen from them.
Was Christmas really about Columbus? In any case such celebrations are seldom about their true meaning. People just like to get pissed. Its like when you go out to the pub to watch your team play rugby. Even if they lose you still get pissed.

They have Columbus day. Separate to Christmas.

As you point out, having a holiday dedicated to the "Native American" who first discovered "America" would make more sense.

Celebrating someone who actually set foot on the North American continent and who didn't think he was in Asia would be a good step forward, Leif Erikson, for instance.
