Iranian baby scheduled for US heart surgery "banned"

Now, in addition to the Yezidi women and Iraqi army translators who helped US forces fight Al-Qaeda, we can add a little Iranian lassie called Fatima, who needed a heart surgery which, if conducted in Iran, only has a 30% survival rate but in the US a 97% survival rate.

I hope she is allowed in :frown:

Does she have US medical insurance if not she is abusing a system.
Joonam. :frown:

There is no humanity in this process. How can they not recognise that a decision needs to be made ASAP. There are no valid grounds to deny her entry; she needs medical treatment.

I hope this is resolved imminently.

How is it abusing the system not to have US medical insurance? If you don't have insurance then you pay for it in full, rather than either having it covered by insurer or handing over the "co-pay".

Also, she's a tiny baby for goodness sake. Who needs our help. A bit of common humanity would be appropriate, no? She doesn't even know what insurance is, but you want to accuse this baby of being a scam artist? What happened to compassion

In the US the healthcare is private not publicly funded and there are over countries with high quality healthcare.

But on the point of her being a baby how many can we help before we make our selves just as poor we're not communists for f***s sake

Hopefully she's allowed to get the surgery. But the fact that this situation has arisen doesn't at all discredit the travel restrictions.

This is a four month old baby... Denying her entry is pure evil, if she doesn't survive (I really hope it doesn't come to that) it will be a stain on US diplomacy.

How is it at all tantamount to communism when the healthcare system is private? You make no sense.

As I said we're not communists in the U.K. Health tourism costs the N.H.S £0.5billion a year

Not quite true. For anyone over the age of 65 in the US, they are part of the universal Medicare system (at least, universal for the elderly). Some low-income people are on Medicaid. The rest will be on insurance, typically through what's called an HMO (health management organisation) like Aetna or Blue Shield. Those who don't have insurance have to pay, they just don't have it covered by insurance (in other words, the bill gets sent to them rather than their insurer).

So I say again, how is the fact she doesn't have insurance mean she is scamming? It would just mean her parents have to pay in cash rather than it being paid by their insurance company

But on the point of her being a baby how many can we help before we make our selves just as poor we're not communists for f***s sake

Given her family would be paying for it (as, I say again, those who don't have medical insurance in America get sent the bill, they pay for it instead of paying premiums to an insurance company that then pays the bills for them), how on earth is that "communism"? (and presumably you mean 'socialism', not communism)

If they can afford to pay they can afford to pay for it elsewhere and no I meant communism as there is not difference between communism and socialism

Excuse me, but this is an emergency and not a casual trip for some boob job  From the way you speak, it seems you don't have children yourself..

The surgery, when carried out in the US, carries a 97% success rate. They want the best they can pay for, that is understandable surely?

By itself, no. But as another data point (along with the Yezidi women banned, the Iraqi army translators who helped the US fight Al-Qaeda, the Green Card holders who are already permanent residents and were simply overseas when the ban came into effect), it stands as yet another brick in the 'Wall of Discredit'. This policy was a complete mess, it had no basis in logic or policy, its only motive was political; countries like Saudi Arabia, from which 15 of 19 of the hijackers on 9/11 came from, are excluded while countries whose citizen had killed zero Americans on American soil in the last 40 years were included.

This was a Bannon initiative; he thought he was being extremely clever, that he was "disorienting" the "opposition", but in fact it's just made the administration look incompetent and cruel. In fact, in the Executive Order they accidentally wrote the wrong statute they were citing as the basis for their powers! These were basic errors that would have been avoided even if it were drafted in the cheapest high street law office, that such an error occurred

I don't have children but if it did I would be concerned about there future and would want them to grow up with an N.H.S

And she won't be "abusing a system" there? Be consistent. Why do you think it's so important that the four month old baby in critical condition not be allowed treatment in the US? Do you think she's a danger?

So we've established they're not scamming the system, as you claimed. So why shouldn't they have the operation in America? What have these people done to you that they deserve your hatred and contempt? :frown:

I'm sorry that's not true. Socialism is a very broad term that generally encompasses public ownership of the "means of production" but can have many meanings and variants. Communism is an authoritarian system where all property is owned by the state under the control of a "dictatorship of the proletariat". Very different things.

The former, for example, would be the United Kingdom under the Attlee government, with nationalised industries, NHS, heavy regulation etc. The latter would be the Soviet Union.

You are one tough dude. Are you American?
Did you bother to read the article?

No I think the democratically elected leader has issued a ban and that stands.
As for the other countries argument if they can pay they aren't abusing the system but as no one has provided a source we don't know that they can pay.
