Why are people so quick to say join a society or join a sports team, when most of these are places people meet up to go out clubbing and drinking?
Surely he can still make friends at the societies though? Is it really that much of an issue in your culture if one of your friends is not drinking alcohol? I never thought it would be an issue.

I will agree with this slightly, from what I've experienced, the sports socs are usually the ones who massively go for it terms of drinking
You can still go out and go to events and not drink, although personally I find drinking is the way I can actually tolerate them, but there are more people than you think that don't drink, for any reason..
Just because you go out to a bar or whatever doesn't meant you have to drink... what's wrong with just ordering orange juice... apart from it being overpriced but hey. Furthermore people need a sober friend so I guess that'll be you lol
I hate dunking alcohol, it makes me feel sick and it's just not something I enjoy at all. But I enjoy making friends and socialising. The problem is that I'm worried that most of the social activities at uni are going to revolve around alcohol- clubbing, going to bars and pubs.
What can I do to make friends and socialise if I don't want to consume any alcohol? I want to go to UCL but from what I've heard the social life there revolves around drinking a lot
Drink apple juice at the pub instead. It tastes just as bad and looks even worse. The best part is you can drive home by yourself.
Drinking a glass of wine with his meal is clearly not what the OP meant. "given my avatar what do I know" I still understand the basic convention of how kuffar socialise.
The fact that u used that term just shows how clueless and ignorant u are.
I don't drink at all and I still do fine, I still have a strong group of friends. I go to predrinks but I stick to water and they're fine with it, I wouldn't say i'm any less of the group than they are..

Labelling all non-Muslims as kuffar is quite harsh, and not encouraged in Islam I believe. Kuffar is a more serious term, which cannot be used on just anyone.

Kuffar means non believers, what are you talking about? It's a perfectly acceptable term and an accurate term to use.

But you say 'kuffar' as if we are wrong to not believe in a religion that doesn't not belong to us. You could easily just say British people and be done with it.

It would be wrong to say "british people" as I am british... So I say kuffar to specifically mean those who do not believe in Islam.
