How common is it for people to lie on job applications/CVs?

About previous skills/experience etc. Even if it's like a small lie, twisting things? Do people often lie in order to get ahead in the job market? I'm not saying it's right but just wanted to know how common it is???
Alot of people lie and alot of people also get caught out when the interviewer asks them something about that at their interview.

You can get away with telling small lies about your hobbies/what you do in your spare time - quite a lot of people do.

But when it comes to qualifications and job experience that can easily be traceable/evidence may need to be presented via certification and references so it is much more difficult. Less people will lie about the latter.

However it is always good to just be upfront and honest, be yourself.
